Just started Canasa's and a box of 30 was $118.00 AFTER insurance!!! I have to use these twice a day which equates to about $8.00 per day or $240.00 per month!!! The Rowasa enemas (generic) are a $15 copay for 2 boxes.  The Canasas are more per day than my Lialda! redface

That's ridiculous! I think I only had a $20 co-pay for Canasa.

My copay for 30 Canasa was $80. I think had I done them mail order it would have been cheaper - but at the time I couldn't wait!

Maybe call your insurance and see if they are formulary and see if you can get a doctor's note stating that you NEED them and maybe insurance will reduce what you have to pay...

The cost of some meds is insane!

Yeah, it seems you need to work with your doctor to find the right brand your insurance will cover, or appeal it with your insurance carrier.

If the insurance won't cover the suppositories, going back to enemas is always an option, too. I suspect the difference is that Rowasa generic is available, and Canasa probably isn't available in the generic so it costs more.

It can be worse, people.

I have decent health insurance through my husband, but no prescription coverage. I pay over $11 a pill for Canasa -- $337/month, I think, and that's with a slight discount negotiated by our county for people without prescription coverage. And it hasn't even cleared things up for me! The same 30 pills would be about $66 if I ordered them from a Canadian pharmacy.

Good to know that Rowasa is available in generic, as that's probably my next route.

My Canasa, at Walmart, cost $305.00 for a one months supply.

I called my ins co BCBS PPO and was told that I could get on another plan where Canasa would be about $80 for one month vs $240 that it cost's me w/ insurance...my Lialda is another $240 per month and my premium just for me is $750.00 per month alone; my Lialda and Canasa after insurance cost me close to $500.00, that's about $1300.00 per month!!!! My God how do people afford managing this disease?!?

How reliable are Canadian Pharmacies? Perhaps someone can suggest a preferred one for those here without insurance.

Wow, that's ridiculous. Mine are a $25 copay, but I have really good insurance. No one should have to pay these ridiculous prices just to feel well.

If you cannot get group coverage ( I'm paid via 1099) then the rates for those with a pre-exsisting condition are horrible!!!

Not trying to hijack your thread, but do you know if you lose coverage for a while, but then later get group coverage again, will the insurance typically cover your pre-existing condition even though you've been without insurance for a while?

Sara, I believe it depends on a couple of things. If it's a larger company, most times they won't care if you have a pre-existing because bigger the company, larger the insurance company, more $ in their pockets. However, if the insurance plan is small then it might not cover it for a certain amount of time or if at all. My hubby when he worked for a smaller company that paid BC/BS out of their bankroll, I had to wait 3 months before they would cover me. But when he got hired into Ford Motor Company, I had no waiting period and I didn't even have insurance at the time.
