Have you guys heard of the Virtual Colonoscopy?  I plan to do some research on it today.  I have heard that it is an easier procedure than the conventional scope.  Will be interesting research.

Yes, I have heard of it.  I think Oprah had one on TV.   A regular, not virtual, colonoscopy is not bad.  They put you out for it.  It's the prep and you still have to take the prep for a virtual.  Another thing, if they find any polyps you have to have them removed anyway, so why not have the regular colonoscopy and they can snip them right out.  Kills two birds with one stone.  My GI doctor doesn't recommend the virtual.

It has been around for several years, but is expensive and not a viable alternative to fiberoptic colonoscopy because the doctor cannot take biopsy samples or remove polyps with the virtual equipment. So-- it promises more than it can deliver! Fiberoptic colonoscopy is still the gold standard for examination of the colon. I'm a living testament to this because, when it revealed my UC in 1980, a previously-done barium series had failed to show any abnormalities. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 Colazal daily for maintenance of remission)

Absolutely OH....It would be a good in between c-scopes if there were changes where a patient has clear biopsies, etc.

Barium enemas...hmmm...I have nothing good to say about them except they must have warehouses full of that stuff. It's not a good indicator of UC, that's for sure..showed nothing of my 15 inches of acute inflammation.

It's actually undignified to me....I adked for an apple to be put in my mouth when my butt was sticking up with the tube out of it. The girl said it wasn't that bad..."well, let's change places"...lol!

I'd go for the virtual if symptoms persisted that were maybe elusive during a c-scope.
