It has been around for several years, but is expensive and not a viable alternative to fiberoptic colonoscopy because the doctor cannot take biopsy samples or remove polyps with the virtual equipment. So-- it promises more than it can deliver! Fiberoptic colonoscopy is still the gold standard for examination of the colon. I'm a living testament to this because, when it revealed my UC in 1980, a previously-done barium series had failed to show any abnormalities. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 Colazal daily for maintenance of remission)
