Think i am heading for 1st flare since dx in may.Don't feel right stomach pains a lot worse since weekend bm's like lumpy mashed potato( have been formed for a while now) have gone from 2-3bm's to 4+ bm's feel i need to go all the time but when i get there sometimes just wind (gas) am having bloods done in morning do you think it might be wise to see if i could speak with dr as to maybe increasing meds oral and/or rectal no blood at moment just don't feel right have not changed diet but have been working more very greaful for advice.

I would give the gastro doctor a call.  He may or may not increase your meds or add a med.  I am still bleeding and still hoping the Canasa and Cort enemas help.  I'm off the prednisone after a long taper and on 6MP and Colazal.  Good luck

Relax, it could be just something you ate - stress will make it worse. Get the blood work done and if it is OK don't worry.

Just a note: in the middle of a flare, my blood work was absolutely normal; my doctor said that's not uncommon, and that blood work just wouldn't be a good indicator for me. Unless you know it's shown a flare for you in the past, I'd be wary of relying on bloodwork.

My blood work is always fine even during flares, but I have inflammation. There are 4 things they look for.

1. Blood work
2. Scope images
3. IBD Histology
4. Physical symptoms - mucous, blood but combined with feeling unwell, nausea, pain and especially diarrhoea.

I have number 2, plus mucous and blood.

I go back on Thursday - for blood work and a rigid sigmoidoscopy to decide what to do with my bleeding.. I am dreading steroids.... as I feel normal and well and don't want to feel unwell in trying to get better!

The bloods i'm having done are for kidney function i don't think they are for anything else but will ask i also don'k know if they would be a good indicator as this is the first time i've flared(i think)still very new to all this, just know am not right at moment.
