Irregular heartbeat?

For the last few months, I've had an irregular heartbeat, kind of like a fluttering feeling in my chest, once or twice a day.  I think I read somewhere this is common in people with UC.  Anyone else get this?

I have this once in a while. But I used to get it before UC too. I think mine has something to do with caffeine and/or physical activity. Nothing ever shows up when the DR. listens to it. I supposedly have a murmer, but no doc, besides the one that diagnosed it 15 years ago, has ever mentioned it. If it bothers you though, get it checked out. They can give you a monitor to wear for a day or two that records heart activity.

I have had it too for quite some time. My dr says its from being chronically anemic. Even when I'm in remission I remain anemic. My iron levels stay super low, which they say can give you heart palpatations over time. I don't have it all the time, but when I do, I DEF notice. You should let your dr know.

Could it be a side effect of any of your meds?

Yes, for the last couple of months I have had this but what happens in mine is there is a skip of the heart which some how causes me to cough. I called it a flutter cough before realizing the heart was skipping. For me it comes and goes, lately it is once in a while but I can go for days "flutter cough" free. I can feel the skip by taking my pulse. I did ask my GP Doc about this and naturally my heart was perfectly normal at the appointment. You can wear a monitor which only tells them that you are not making it up. I am getting blood work done but haven't had the tests yet. I found a discussion board by doing a search for something like" skip heart beat cough" and one person after another had the same or similar symptoms but very few had gotten a medical explanation or help for this. One thing I am trying is folic acid in a higher dose than I normally take, as one of the less common symptoms if folic deficiency is irregular heart beat and I do take sulfasalazine which suppresses folic intake. not sure this is helping.

I used to get this alot, but I believe it was caused by two things...slight dehydration and/or physical exertion when I wasn't in shape. I haven't had irregular heartbeats since slowing down my bm's, drinking more water and exercising. There may also be a hormonal connection, which exercise also corrects.
