I was lactose intolerant prior to UC, and now I'm even more sensitive! I drink my coffee black (when I'm able to drink coffee), avoid ice cream, and haven't thought about
using regular milk on my cereal in years. I made the switch to soy milk about
5 years ago, and my GI tract is so much the happier for it. I can tolerate moderate amounts of cheese or yogurt, just not on the same day. I was hoping that kefir would be okay. It is basically a yogurt-type drink, with lots of good bacteria, plus the other good stuff you get from milk, but that gives me bad gas as well. If the thought of soy or rice milk makes you cringe, try Lactaid...real milk w/o the lactose. I used that for a spell back in the day.
