Hello, I'm a new member who has been reading here for the past few weeks. Just wanted to say that it really helps to see how others are dealing and coping. Lots of strength and positive attitudes. I've really learned a lot and share my sympathy.

Remission impossible...not here...

Hey everyone,

I was diagnosed with UC in summer of 2006.. Im 20 right now, and it sucks!!!!!!
I had a blood transfusion 2 weeks ago, and im on 800mg of asacol, iron pills... and now im on presidone of 40mg a day

I still get bleeding like 2-3 times a week, and it seems like none of the medication is working..
predisone did help for a while but the side effects are insane!!
i cant sleep at night some night,
i get joint pains
i never really had a problem with acne, just a few bumps here and there but with predisone its given me like a rash on my face, nothing pops out just little tiny tiny red spots, and now i wanna get off of predisone, ive been on the medication for about 4 weeks, and today im gonna stop taking it. But i was wondering, how long does it take for the predisone to actually clear out through your body?, and does anybody had/have the same problem and if so, how long does it take to disolve the side effects?

Lavi,

You do know that you have to taper off prednisone, right?  You can't just stop taking it suddenly, or you can have some nasty side effects.  Make sure you talk to your doc about the proper tapering schedule for the amount that you're taking.

The doctors here in winnipeg are Idiots!!!
My G.I Specialist always, and i mean always forgets who i am, whats wrong with me, what medication im on, and my family doctor just makes me always go check a blood check.
Anyways ive been on predisone for 4 weeks now, 40mg a day, and i wanna reduce it.. the only reason i was on it was because my stool hasnt been formed in like 4 months and finally it has been, and the bleeding is always gonna be there whether i like it or not, and whether which medication i take, its gonna be there...
so what my plan is im gonna reduce it by 5 mg per days
so:
5 days - 25mg
4 days - 20mg
3 days - 15mg
2 days - 10mg
1 day - 5mg

I'm not one to talk because I've always been reluctant to go to see a doctor until I absolutely had to this year (and my brother is an internist who believes in preventive care). Now I have no choice, and in a strange way, this is good for me. Since I had symptoms 15 years ago, I must have a colonoscopy every year (that I dread...and I mean dread). Anyway, it's important to listen to your doctor, especially when it comes to the medication. If you're not happy with your GI, I would find another one.

Oh, also as Mr. Impatient, I've learned to be patient and give it time...lots of time! Yeah, months of blood, rushing to the boy's room, etc...thinking I'll never be "normal" again. Luckily the pain subsided after being on Asacol. I know, what works for one doesn't necessarily work for the other. I'm still learning...

there's no reason for a c-scope yearly if your biopsies are clear of precancer or cancer..

You should also be on rectal meds.
