asacol vs colazal

If you have right-side issues Colazal might not help as it (reportedly) starts dissolving farther into the colon. Asacol begins to dissolve in the terminal ileum. You might ask your gastro about Pentasa's effectiveness and cost relative to Asacol because it also has more effect on the right side than Colazal, judging from other members' posts in earlier threads. You're absolutely right to think twice before attempting to change from a med that definitely helps you. I was obliged by my insurance to switch to generic Colazal a few months ago & have noticed some increase in bms + gassiness I didn't have with the original med. An inquiry to the local pharmacist found that I would have to co-pay $283.00 for a 30-day supply of original Colazal now, whereas my insurance fully covers the generic. That's what we're up against, and it can seem so unfair! / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Have you asked your doctors office about coupons and samples. My son was once on a med that cost $800/month and his doc was able to give me three months supply out his med closet. Asacol has been really good for me and I would hate to give it up. When I had insurance issues, I was able to get some rx's filled online. It was way cheaper. I used a site called canadadrugs.com. It was a wonderful help at the time.
