I've been reading some literature online. Is it true that UC can cause lactose intolerance? Has anyone had experience with this?
I'm trying to figure out if I might be intolerant. It seems odd that not long after I eat, my stomach feels super bloated and gassy. I just ate a cream-based pasta dish, and within like 30 minutes, stomach pains, bloating, etc. I find it hard to believe that these symtoms 30 minutes after I eat are caused by UC alone...
Stew,
I had that cause and effect for years. After eating fatty and creamy foods, my stomach would freak out. It was a large amount of super rich cheesecake at a dinner party that put me in the restroom with horrific abdominal cramps and pains. Left sweating from the pain. Bleeding followed and the UC was ultimately diagnosed and treated. Now there's the chicken and the egg question.. I don't know that lactose caused UC, rather my doc suggested that I ought to stop dairy altogether and also treat the UC. Doc considered them 2 separate issues that are painful when combined.
I am probably not the only one who has eaten rich rich creamy foods and then had huge stomach aches, but enjoyed eating so much that I repeated the process over and over and suffered over and over.
Those days are mostly behind me. You couldn't pay me to drink a glass of milk. I have worked back into eating cheese, but no where near like the old days. So you are not alone, maybe you have the dual issue like me....
Good luck.
