Hi to all,

In my eternal search for a natural cure for my colitis I came across a product from GARDEN OF LIFE called FYI: (For Your Inflammation) has anyone tried this and if so what are your thoughts and feeling on it?

I haven't heard of it but I just looked it up.  The FYI is billed as a joint and cartillage formula.  I know that some of the things in it have been used by UC'ers but this product isn't specifically stating that it can help your digestive system.  I'm not sure if I missed something???

It contians a lot of digestive enzymes which I thought might be helpful in aiding the system. I keep doing research and hoping to come up with something. Any input is helpful. Thanks.

Check out Jordan Rubin on quackwatch.com before you purchase any Garden of Life products. It seems he has a habit of making false claims about his products.

You won't find your natural cure with those products. Digestive enzymes do aid in breaking down foods that can give us discomfort.

If you're wanting to make it an experiment....seems a better decision rather than making it a desperate purchase.

Are you not able to use any meds?

Have been using a 6mp. But am allergic to almost everything else. I don't want to take the next step and do remicade or humira. The side effects scare me. Just been living with this for so long(27 years) I don't know what else to do besides the obvious surgery but don't think I'm ready for that yet since I am still relatively young. I recently started taking a pre-natal vitamin that contains digestive enzymes and it seemed to help a bit. Perhaps I will explore that route a little further.

I also read this website and the letter from the FDA about this companies claims. I just wanted to get everyone's feedback and see who if anyone had explored this route.

I'm not advocating anything here, but most people that have had the surgery said the one regreat they have is that they didn't do it sooner. Surgery is a more benign now than it has been in the past, and since they are able to make pouches internally, there is less need for a permanent j-pouch. Just a thought for you. Check out any threads regarding surgery here and in the Crohn's forum.

Last time I visited my G.I. he was all for surgery. Above all else, I think I'm scared. I know it's probably my best option. I was hoping to have another kid before I really considered it. When I think about it, if I live to the ripe old age of 85 (knock on wood) I would have to live 50 years without a colon. That frightens me. Why have you not considered surgery?

Your best bet for reducing inflammation is supplementing with high doses of omega-3 oils - either fish or flax if you're vegetarian. The omega 3 fatty acids in fish oil help repair the intestinal tract. They also help reduce inflammation associated with leaky gut. One study showed that 2.7 grams daily put Crohn’s disease patients into remission. Recommended dose of fish oil for IBDers is 1,000–2,000 mg. daily.

If you want to learn more, there's an exellent book called The New Eating Right for a Bad Gut that covers omega-3 supplementation in addition to other dietary modifications.

Thanks, I am on omega 3, I just don't think it's a high enough dose. I'll up it and see what happens.
