bones cracking, jaw cracking,

I have been off predinisone since June. Before that I was mostly on it since 2000. Ranging from 50 mg to I would say 10 being the lowest, then ususally I would flare then increase the prednisone again. Since I have been off of it I feel fine, but I have realized my jaw cracks alot, like everytime I move my mouth. Then my bones are always popping when I strech. I'm worried that I might have something wrong with many. Any words of advice or experince? Thanks.

Jaw popping could be TMJ. Have you ever been checked for it?

I notice more joint popping in general when I consume dairy, which I try to avoid.

My bones are always popping when I strech too, specially my hips... no problems with my jaw... but I'm getting worried about it.

Do you get dental check-ups regularly? Are you having bloods tested, including calcium & vitamin D25 levels, by your PCP, internist, or gastro at least a couple times a year? It's always possible to incur bone loss from longterm use of steroids, but you do have youth on your side-- so if your dentist or doctor(s) detect any problem, they could still help you to reverse it through vitamin/mineral supplements, exercise, use of Fosamax, etc. Take care. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... Hi Mike,

I was on prednisone only once. My joints would make cracking/popping noises when I was tapering off of it. The joints in my hands were also painful. I felt like I had arthritis (although I really don't know what that feels like). I think I tapered off the medicine too fast. After about a month or two, my joints stopped cracking/popping and the pain in my hands went away.

in your jaw is it a kind of popping sound and feeling in one side when you open and close it? almost feels like it's dislocating then pops back in again!!

I have TMJ. I don't remember when I got it. It was either right before or right after taking prednisone; so I don't know if it is related to the prednisone. When I first got it, it sounded so loud that everybody could hear my jaw cracking. My boyfriend said it sounded like I had swallowed a clock--tick, tock, tick, tock--sort of like the crocodile in Peter Pan. Now I only notice it if I'm checking to see if I still have it.

One of the other things I noticed after being on prednisone for more than two months was that my teeth hurt when I drank very cold beverages. I don't notice that anymore either.

I was diagnosed with TMJ and IBD both in college and believe they are related and were caused by my crappy diet and resulting gut ecological imbalance. Both have greatly improved since I've cleaned up my act and am no longer eating a diet of sugar and starch all day long, every day.

     I don't have any joints "popping" but I do have pain in my back and hips and I am almost positive it is due to osteoporosis from the prednisone.  Have your bones checked out.
