Docs are suppose to inform their UC patients before surgery that DX is not always correct and that by having their colons removed doesn't mean that they will be cured of their IBD especially if it turns out they have CD (and were misDX) rather than UC.
2% of patients that do have both UC and CD is very rare...and alot of CDers get very confused when their docs tell them they have colitis and don't specify that it's actually crohn's colitis (which is still CD but it's affecting the colon) so that often leaves the patient thinking they have both UC and CD when infact they still only have CD....colitis is inflammation of the colon and too many throw the word "colitis" out there too loosely causing more confusion for others as well as themselves.
