Burning feet?

Every once in a while the bottoms of my feet feel as if I am walking thru a bed of hot coal.  I am not quite sure what this is from so I was wondering if any of you have this problem?  And if so, what is the cause of it if you know?

Hey Sherry, I've never had that before. I looked it up on the internet and it said it could be Athlete's foot, or some nerve damage. Is it really a bad burning sensation?

I know it's not Athletes foot because it's not constant. It only happens every now and then and only for a short time. And yes, it's a bad burning feeling - sort of like someone is taking a blowtorch to the bottom of my feet.

Well, I read that could be some nerve damage....have you talked to your doc? There is such a wide range with that. I'm sorry that it's bothering you; it must be painful.

LOL No, I didn't bring it up to the doc. Truthfully I am getting so sick of seeing her that I have a tendancy of putting things off until I can no longer.

I read on the internet that sometimes this happens to people that are on chemo drugs for cancer and I know that 6mp is sometimes used with that. I know that I am on such a low dose and that probably doesn't apply to me or anyone else on 6mp/Imuran. So I am wondering if the 6mp is doing this to me or if it's something else.

I have something similiar sometimes - and I am taking 6-MP. Maybe that is it? Well, my feet actually don't burn, but they are tired as if I ran through the mall all day in 8-inch heels. Also, my shins and calves easily start to burn and to hurt when I crouch down to my dogs and remain longer in that position than a few seconds. I have no clue what that is and when I asked the doctor, she said HMPH as in "No clue". It feels like an exhaustion though, not a burning as in hot. I am sorry I can't help you further either shakehead .

Ha, Sherry, I totally understand. I too am having the same issue about seeing my doc with some knee problems. Since they can't seem to "find" anything internally, they want to push meds on me. I don't want to take anymore! They are probably placebos just so I won't bother her anymore...just kidding. She really is a great doc, but I'm sure she is tired of seeing me! Maybe it is a symptom of the 6mp. Hope it feels better soon. Oh, one more thing...try rubbing some Arnica on it to see if it relieves some of the burning pain. It's a cream you can find in the natual section of your store or at a health food store. It helps with bruising and pain; someone recommended it to me and it does help. don't get an actual burning... but I get a burning itch now adays. And its not restrained to my feet. could be a knee cap, an elbow. Just an itch that you HAVE to scratch. and it still doesn't go away. Sole's of feet are a prime target though.

Lol Carol, you know I had that same thought? What if they were giving me placebos just to placate me?! I know it's not so but half of the meds they give me don't seem to do much good anyway.

Scarlet, I get that too but I think it's mainly because while I'm sick I am not that active so when I start feeling better my muscles aren't used to being used and they burn. Especially my calves when I walk fast.

Bubba, ohh that itch! I can definately relate! What is really horrible about that is if you are driving and you get that intense itch on the sole of your foot? Agh! :)

It could be nerve related or Raynaud's related.

Do get your B-vitamin levels checked, and I think you should tell the doc asap.

I have gotten areas of my feet that itch...it's definitely nerve related and disconcerting. I have it sometimes when I stretch my leg or foot and the muscles in my foot contract..the pain is awful! I do beieve most of it's related to my back.

The other thing..it could be related to the 6-MP or Colazal.

Keep us posted as to how you're doing.

I had my B levels checked about 2 months ago and everything came out fine. I'm thinking of going ahead and making an appt to see my primary because I think I need to get into my neurologist again because my neck pain has returned. So I think I may need more epidural injections....maybe the burning feet is related to that hmm.

S1 Dermatome/nerve root maybe. Could be something in that area top sacrum. Could check for rotation in your sacrum.... (lay on stomach and have someone support top of the sacrum and do a straight leg lift backwards while keeping the hip on the table. If any difference at all could be rotation there.) Usually an easy fix if not alot of degeneration in that area. Could be from neck area too? Just like everything else, power supply gets messed up in the top it can affect everything from there down. We had this one lady with constant burning on soles of feet and never could figure out wth it was. Reffered to two different neurologists, had mri, and ct, no luck. She still has the problem as far as I know. Get those at times.

I have been having the same thing recentely. It has happened 3 times on my left heel...just a quick hot/burning feeling. It happened on my right thigh this morning. I'm going to ask about it today when I see my chiropractor. I've noticed some slight swelling about 2 in above my ankle on the left side...but it doesn't hurt unless I walk alot. This may be one of those outward manifestations of the UC. I've had strange swelling before.

The last time I was in to see the neurologist (a couple weeks ago), I mentioned this to him. He said that more then likely the burning feet were due to some nerve issues. Probably my sciatic because when that acts up the burning gets more intense. When it settles down, the burning isn't so much an issue. That makes sense in my case. And yes he said that it's possible my neck was causing the issue too. But I had epidural injections a couple weeks ago. My neck pain and hand burning has ceased but I still get the burning feet on occasion.

P-fit, the burn I feel is my entire foot - toe to heel. Let me know what your chiro has to say about what might your problem be ok?

Colitis can impair both blood flow and nerve sensitivity in the feet. Poor circulation means that tiny cuts, ulcerations, cracks in the skin, or other minor injuries can become infected, and because of poor nerve functioning, a person with colitis may not notice.

You know I get burning pain in my left heel at night when sleeping and sometime it will get so intense that besides waking me up, I can't get back to sleep, usually I will end up putting a pillow under my leg so my heel doesn't touch the matress, and that helps a little! Sometimes though I will have to take a pain pill just to get it to ease up enough so I can get back to sleep. I can't lay flat and I sleep in a Fowlers position, I always figure the pain is from the bad disc in my lower back. I  also have neuropathy in my feet and legs, so that doesn't help either.

     This post is interesting because today I was going to call a Podiatrist.  I don't have burning sensations, but whenever I first get up from a chair and put pressure on my feet, the heel of my right foot is terribly sore.  I was thinking maybe spurs?  Or else, since I suffer from osteoporosis, could it be that?

Christine, that sort of sounds like a heel spur. Not sure if it is exactly. My husband had a heel spur - his hurt when he was on his feet regardless of how much time he spent resting. He went into the doc for it and it showed up on the xray. He had two options, use a cushioned heel pad or surgery to remove it. He didn't need either because during the summer he stepped outside with no shoes on, stepped on a rock and it broke off itself. Yes he dropped to the ground in massive pain! LOL

I never knew that. I wonder if I may have cut myself shaving or something in that area. I noticed the swelling and pain got worse after I shaved my legs last week, but I didn't notice any cuts on my legs. The area doesn;t feel warm or red so I'm not sure it is an infection, but who knows. I didn't get to see the Chiro but I'm going to the pain mgmt Dr on the 11th for the results of my fibro blood tests. Maybe he can give me additional info.

Teacusunderfire - do you have any more information on this such a link to a website that addresses this? I have never heard of this.
