L-glutamine is an amino acid. There have been several recent studies into the effects of glutamine and there is evidence that links glutamine-enriched diets with intestinal effects; aiding maintenance of gut barrier function, intestinal cell proliferation and differentiation, as well as generally reducing septic morbidity and the symptoms of IBS and IBD. It tends to normalize bowel functions and is helpful in reducing diarrhea and healing the gut.
L-glutamine can be purchased at any healthfood or drugstore. It's a pure, white powder that's tasteless and mixes easily in water or juice.
