Hello everybody it has been a long time since I have posted here, which basically means my UC has been under control although I always peek in here every week or so. I was wondering if anybody else vomits in the morning? I don't vomit everyday but I do a few times a week right when I wake up I get this sick feeling immediately and I run into the bathroom and vomit bile. I have tried eating a little before bed, not eating long before bed, I have tried drinking different things before going to bed and it really seems to have no bearing if I have to vomit or not when I wake up. Although I have noticed it happens more frequently when my alarm wakes me up for work vs. waking up on my own on the weekend. I brought this up with the doctor and she said it is common for people with UC because it is a shock to the digestive system when you wake it up suddenly, but she may not of completely understood me since I used the term "I suffer from severe nausea in the morning" I just wonder if she just thought I feel sick and not actually vomitting. Well I have to make my anual appointment again in the next month so I plan on bringing it up again but I was wondering does anybody else really vomit when they wake up?

If the vomiting continues, please call your doctor. A few years back, I was vomiting in the morning and I ended up in the hospital with servere dehydration. Please be very careful and don't put off calling your doctor if it continues. Take care

Thanks for the quick replies I had a feeling that this couldn't be completely normal and I find it weird I will most definately bring this up in more detail with the doctor next time.
Jano - Don't worry about
the vomitting dehydrating me, it happens only right when I get up and it is only a small amount of bile after that I'm good to go. I actually feel great right afterwards and I'm on with my day. I'm just concerned that this isn't normal and it sure can't be healthy for the long term in anyway. But seriously the whole process starts and is finished within about
2 minutes of me getting out of bed. It is the strangest reoccuring thing that has happened to me since being diagnosed and seems to be the only thing about
UC (if it is UC related at all) that I suffer from.

well, i may as well ask...could you be pregnant?
Call your doctor and make the appointment sooner than later...especially if it's something new and clearly not normal.

You should report any changes (like vomitting) to your doc, vomitting tends to be more common with CD than with UC mainly because CD can affect the small intestines, stomach and esophagus (and because of blockages which is more common for CD that can also result in vomitting), not saying UCers never vomit, it's just less common of a UC symptom, so if this is new for you, call your doc.

I had this BIG time before I knew what was wrong with me. Off and on for like 2 years before I knew I had UC. I would throw up greenish stuff every AM in the shower. I had really convinced myself I was neurotic or something. I get it only very rarely now that I'm on my Colazal. I know I feel one hell of a lot better after it comes out.
I can definitely relate, and I would ask the GI if I were you.

@bad gut.
i know its been a long time that you have posted in this, but i wanted to tell you that i get almost exactly what you described. im a 19 year old male. i recently quit drinking soda and thats when it started. i went quite a while (a month or more) with out drinking any soda, i was only drinking OJ, milk, water, and cranberry juice. i was also trying to eat healthier, by not ordering out and not getting fast food. i noticed that without drinking soda and without eating "bad" foods i was eating more of the stuff i was supposed to... but i was WAY thirstier (sp). around a week or so without soda and fast food i began waking up at random hours of the night/early morning feeling sick, throwing up around 50 percent of the time 3-4 times a week. this went on untill i was so thirsty (around a month in) i decided i would only drink a small amount of soda to quench the thirst while having a good flavor.i was hoping this would stop the morning sickness while maintaining a somewhat healthy diet.
due to me drinking soda again my apatite disappeared again, and i still throw up 3-4 mornings a week. when i dont actually vomit, i sure feel like im going to and im not sure the cause. i have a DR appt comming up in like a week and im going to tell him about
it.
i think quitting soda started it, depending on what time i eat before bed determines the time i wake up and throw up, sometimes i go the whole night with out throwing up but when i wake up to bring my girlfriend to school ill vomit.
i also noticed when i get woken up i feel alot sicker than if i dont, if i just wake up on my own. im still having the problem of waking up between 2AM and 7AM feeling sick or getting sick. the only thing that helped me was marijuana, im kind of scared to consult my Dr about
it though.
anyones input or similar experience would be appreciated
id be glad to answer anyones questions about
the way i tried to explain my situation. i just wanted to try and fit it all in one post... if you get confused just ask, ill try my best to give you a detailed answer

I was vomiting up to ten times a day for almost 9 months. No one could figure it out. It was always worse in the morning. I eventually figured out I was severly lactose intolerant.

Youre vomiting bile you say, are you sure its not stomach acid? From what I can tell youre just not eating enough in general. Are you eating well throughout the day? Any particular time this began? If so do you remember if you changed diet or something, etc.

@ Madcat25
I don't know what i'm throwing up, if i were to guess it was whatever I ate the night before. Even if I ate at 4 in the afternoon i'd wake up in the middle of the night and throw up. It could be stomach acid but it happens a lot. I don't really eat that well, and usually my first meal is around 2 or 3 in the afternoon. After I wake up, eating isn't easy and I just don't have any kind of appetite what so ever until about
2 or 3. I did change my diet a few months ago, and all I did was quit drinking soda. That's when I started throwing up almost every morning. While I was not drinking soda, my appetite kind of restored but like I said I was throwing up almost every night/morning (1am - 7am). Then after about
a month of no soda, maybe more, I was still throwing up and nothing I drank could quench my thirst. I decided to drink soda again, but not alot, this resulted in my appetite slowly shrinking again and me drinking alot of soda again. The only thing that changed this time was i continued to throw up.
would not eating enough throughout the day cause me to wake up between 1-and 7 AM and throw up?
@Teddtlove
I have never been diagnosed as lactose intolerant. i eat alot of yogourt and cheese, and i drink a whole lot of milk and i never feel different when i eat or drink dairy products.

I know this is super old but I was hoping some of you are still active here. My name is Krista. I am 21 years old. Sometimes starting in January I would start getting stomach cramps that would wake me up out of my sleep which would then cause me to start vomiting. It's always accompanied with diarrhea. For about
6 months straight I threw up every single morning. Now it's about
three times a week which is a relief but still isn't enough. I've been to three different doctors who have all treated me for IBS which hasn't helped at all so I made an apt with a GI dr. I go in a couple weeks. I'm just wondering if any of you figured out something that helps the nausea and early morning vomiting. It really puts a damper on me getting ready for work and trying to get my kids ready for school and daycare. I fee like it controls my life and the only thing that helps is weed. I can smoke after vomiting and I feel 1000 times better. This doctor will be testing me for both forms of IBD. I just need some relief in the mean time. Thank you!
