Has anyone here ever been treated for UC with Entocort? I was diagnosed w/ UC in spring of 05 and am ina flare up right now and due to trouble with side effects from prednisone my DR just prescribed Entocort but all I see says it is for Crohn's......guess I'm confused and worried. I have an aunt and a cousin who were mis-diagnosed w/ UC and later found out it was Crohn's so I'm wondering if that may be the case for me too. I see th Dr on Wed. but just thought I would ask.

Hi..where in the colon is your UC? throughout or limited?

Entocort comes in oral and rectal forms...I'm assuming the doc gave you the capsules?

They start to dissolve in the small intestine before the ileum, but it does go into the colon as well. It won't, however, treat lower in the colon...which you would have if you have UC.


An addition of rectal meds would be helpful.

What other meds in the past were you on for UC? Have you tried any of the 5-ASA meds, oral or rectal, such as Asacol, Colazal, Rowasa or Salofalk enemas, Canasa suppositories?

Misdiagnosis happens when CD is in the colon, but Crohn's colitis can easily mimic UC in early stages. The early treatments are pretty much the same, however.

What symptoms are you having at this time?

Make a list of questions you need to ask the doc...maybe one should be to set up a c-scope with lots of biopsies.

Are you taking any other supplements?

Hi, Currently I am taking Entocort. My GI doctor told me that only 10% of steroid obsorb by body. I started 3 pills/day (2 mon.) but now I am taking 2 pills/day. I do not have any side effect from the med.

Entocort pills work like a real charm for me. But as soon as I taper, it all falls apart again, and the doc will not prescribe more than several weeks at full strength.

Yes I am on the capsules. I am currently taking 9mg a day. I am also on 800mg of Asacol 2x a day, 30mg prednisone a day(down from 40mg for a week now), 20 milequivilents of potassium a day, and I take either Tramadol or tylenol for pain depending on how bad it is. I am also receiving weekly iron infusions.

From what the Dr said after my last colonoscopy on 2/18 my colitis is througout the colon but worst on the left side. I haven't been in the office since my colonoscopy, I go back this week. I do have a list of questions ready trust me.

My current symptoms are the abdominal pain and I am starting to get diahrea again. This flare started in January and got pretty bad pretty fast. It was gettting under control or so I thought with the Prednisone and Asacol but I also am borderline Diabetic and the Prednisone was sending my sugars rather high so the Dr. prescribed the Entocort and had me start decreasing Prednisone last week. Since I lowered the Prednisone by 10mg I am noticing symptoms returning and worsening. I will ask about the rectal meds when I go on Wed.
