Remicade with open wounds?

hi there- I have gotten tattooed since starting on Remicade- not sure what the time frame was when I ast got a tattoo, & when the next infusion was. How close together they were, etc. But it couldnt've been all that far apart- I've been going every 6 weeks for a long time, at the high dose. I have had no problems. I think it makes a difference if it's an open wound, from an infection, or injury, as opposed to a concentrated tattoo-type "wound"... I hope that makes sense! I mean, a tattoo only goes thru a couple layers of skin, & it's a "clean" wound, so it shouldn't cause any problem. My healing time was the same, on or off Remicade. What a hassle, huh? Just another issue to think about! If there were any signs of infection, I wouldn't do the infusion- but you figure, 4 days is long enough to know how the healing is going, for the tattoo. It should be pretty well scabbed by then. You could always put the infusion off for one more week, if you're really nervous about it. Myself, I'd probably go for the Remicade & hope for the best.

It's my understanding that the infusions are dangeous when an infection is present. I had to postpone two of mine because of staph infections, but as soon as the infections were gone I was able to have the infusion...I had very large open wounds during these experiences, so you should be fine as long as there is no infection.

I would check with your GI or your nurse just to make sure...if they premix your infusion prior to your visit and then decide at your appointment that you shouldn't do it, that treatment must still be used within a specific amount of time. I would hate for such an expensive medication to go to waste.
