Scarlet504 - 6mp and face rash?

I noticed in another post that you mentioned that you developed a rash on your face due to 6mp.  I thought I was the only one here that had this! I didn't develop the rash right away with the 6mp usage, more like a year or so after I was on it.  I have had allergy testing and nothing has every shown up and I switched to a more gentler face wash.  This seemed to help but I can't go a day without using Elidel (which is a prescription) or my rash comes back.  My primary thinks that it may be from the 6mp.  Where is the rash on your face?  Mine is under my nose at the corners and on my outer chin area.  At it's worse, it spread to my left cheek but I haven't had that in a while.  What do you do for your rash?

that is EXACTLY where I have my rash! I also get lots of zits around the mouth and chin as if I was a teenager again. Sometimes I thought that it is just dry skin, because it feels so coarse and so I used a exfoliating skin scrub for sensitive skin by Olay. That didn't work. I now use NOXEMA. I use the wash paste in that little blue tub and also the "blackhead remover" wash with the exfoliating stuff every three days or so and that works for me. It makes my skin smoother, the itching has stopped and it looks better. I am familiar with Elidel, because I sometimes get dyshydrotic (sp) eczema on the palm of my hands for whatever reason.

The Noxema definitely works for me, it has that anti-acne stuff in it. And also, the skin of my neck is totally coarse. I used to get a rash there too, but that has faded away. It just feels coarse and sometimes itches.

I used to get those cyst-like zits on my chin--I'm not sure if they were actually cysts or not, but they would get big and sore, but never come to a head or anything, then eventually go away. I used to use Mary Kay products, but switched to Philosophy products about two years ago. I haven't had any since then. Some friends of mine who have worse problems use one of their serums, I think something in their "on a clear day" line of products. I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules here! Anyway, their stuff isn't cheap, but it lasts a long time and I'm really happy with it! Let me know if you want any more info about their products (and where to order from to save a bit of $$ on it!).

Have you seen a dermatologist? I had a rash that even a dermatologist couldn't explain-- he knew what it was but couldn't tell me why it just appeared.. Then I went to a second dermatologist who said it was perioral dermatitis due to stopping taking prednisone! Apparently stopping steroids can cause a rash-like thing around the mouth. (It sucks and it hurts!) The first dermatologist made me think I was going to have it for the rest of my life. The second dr. saw the connection to my drugs. I also learned that lots of the products I was using were making it worse!

So I would suggest seeing a great dermatologist if you have one. Maybe it's not the 6MP but something else?

No I haven't seen a dermatologist because I didn't see much point in it. What can he/she do for me that my primary can't?? I think the derm will just tell me it's perioral dermatitis just as my primary has. Tell me that it's med related and that there isn't much they can do for it. I haven't been on steroids so I can't blame it on that :) And the rash appeared before I started on cortesteroid neck injections.
