i have been seeing a gastroenterologist for my proctitis, but am wondering if i should be seeing a proctologist cause it is not getting any better and thinking maybe the proctologist might have more answers..just wondering which one other people with the same problem see....any help right now i'll take..thanks

A proctologist is a colorectal surgeon.  They changed the name of their specialty many years ago.  I think your best bet is to stick to a GI unless you want to contemplate surgery and if that's the case see a CR surgeon.

If your GI is competent then he should be able to help you with your proctitis issues, ask him for cortifoam (it always does the trick for me) but you have to be patient, the worse the flare the longer it will likely take to get under control.

     Several years ago I consulted a proctologist and my GI doctor was kinda insulted.  Apparently, GI doctors are quite capable of treating ulcerative proctitis..it is all part of the colon.  I had severe hemorroids but my GI doctor said they could cut them out but they do grow back and he didn't recommend surgery.  Ironically, the proctologist agreed.
