Due to recent flare up i had increased my canasa suppository to 2 X day and so called my GI if i could get a new prescription as i have a prescription of 30 suppository for a month i.e one per day. My GI wants me to meet her before i get a new prescription - i wanted an immediate appointment as i will be traveling soon but my GI did not have free slot to fit me in, now cannot meet GI for atleast a month. i have again reduced it to 1 X day but I will run out of my suppositories within few days. and i will have to go without canasa for 10-15 days!! m worried - dnt know what to do.

Call again and make sure your doctor understands that you will be without it for that long if she doesn't refill it. She might not know that you'll be out if you have to wait to see her.

Did you explain to your GI that you're planning to go away and that if she cannot get you in that she's putting you at risk of not having any rectal meds for a couple of weeks? Nothing worse than a doc that doesn't work for you and your situation, the least she could do is phone in another script to get you by until you're able to see her. I would call back and express that to her.

Infact my GI is a very busy doc & i always talk to her nurse who fixes all the appointments + i need to tell her all my problem and then she gets back after talking to the GI. She had a talk with the doc regarding this and conveyed the same to me. i did tell her that without a prescription i would be without my medicine for 10-15 days :-(
All this trouble when i m flaring :-(( i m still wondering what i should do? m planning to start taking canasa alternate days so that it will not be a long stretch without medicine at all .... :-( What do u suggest?

I've had my family doc fill prescriptions for my rectal meds, maybe give your family doc a shot, explain the situation and hopefull he/she will just give you enough til you get in with your GI.

I don't like using doctors that make things difficult. It is not fair. I would keep calling too. I would look into seeing another doctor if the office doesn't help me the way I need to be helped. When I was using one Canasa a day it didn't help and I upped to two. After a few weeks at two a day, I am now back down to one in the evening. If two is helping I would call and explain that this is causing you a lot of stress and you need them to be more understanding. I hope you can get this worked out before your trip.

i guess since i didn't talk to my GI before increasing the dose to 2 a day - it made me feel that i m wrong here? Dnt know why- but whatever happens with me i always blame myself first :-(( Do u always consult your doc before increasing or decreasing. I have been struggling to get it but now no use as m all packed to leave :-(

No, I don't always consult my doc. before increasing or decreasing meds. I can understand what you're feeling though. I would probably feel that way a little bit b/c I blame myself a lot too, but you shouldn't feel in the wrong. I would seriously call again or call your family doctor. Just explain that you increased your dose to 2/day since you weren't getting enough relief from 1/day. I'm sure they'll understand. It's your body, afterall.

I have done the same thing when my GI doctor was away on vacation. I went to my family doctor and showed him the box of my suppository. He wrote me a script right away without asking any questions.

thanks ! i will try my family doc, if i m able to meet him tomorrow ! as that is the only time i have before my travel!
