Which one did you get (jpouch etc) ?
how long were you laid up and how much work did you miss?
Are you happy with your decision?
What are you trips to the bathroom like now?
Do you finally feel normal. (mostly what I want back is my energy and not feeling like I am 84 but 44)?


I have an appointment in 2 weeks with a surgeon to find out the details. It scares the heck out of me but at the same time I am sooooooooooo tired of being ill and unproductive.

I had J pouch- Two stage surgery.

Since I was on steroids for quite long, the recovery was a little slow. I had my take down on March 13, 2006, and despite the incisional burst out of small intestines, I had started working on April 12, 2006. I drove myself to the office.

Trips to bathroom depend a lot on the diet, which you are having. I am still going 8 to 10 times. But it is not loosies or D, as some people say. It is formed stool.

The last one is a million dollar question???? No comments as of now. Let me keep something up my sleeves. Ha Ha Ha.

I have a perm ileo.

I was useless for about 2 weeks, then starting getting some energy back, i didnt go back to work for two and a half months, but i could have gone back after 6, my schedule just got messed up.

VERY happy with my decision!

since i have a perm ileo, i just empty a bag when i go, so it takes like 2 or 3 minutes, and i just do it when i pee. It does depend on what i have eaten though. Different foods have different transit times.

I feel totally normal! In fact my family keeps telling me i am acting like a teenager!

for summerstorm....can you tell your bag is filling and is that distracting...weird question i know. thanks for the reply and i am happy you feel young and energetic!

its not distracting, a good deal of the time i forget i have it. Sometimes you can feel the food come out, if you have eaten certain things, or if you have alot of gas, but thats rare.
If i let it get really full, too full, i can feel it then.
But most of the time i dont notice it.

I had the jpouch surgery 8 years ago in 2-steps.

Missed 3 weeks of work after the first step, 3 weeks missed after the 2nd step.  Worked the 5 weeks between both surgeries.

I have never regretted my decision; I love the jpouch as it affords me the freedom to hike and backpack with no worries.  I hike a lot; currently in Kauai and doing jungle hikes.  Have done long distance hikes (100-200 miles) through England, Scotland, Ireland, and the high Sierras. Currently hiking in Kauai.

I have no idea what my frequency is, it doesn't interfere with my activities, though.
