Need help again anal opening, not skin tag looks like a ulcer or hole

Hi All,

I was posting about a little skin tag well today going to the bathroom I took a mirror, see my whole rectum comes out when I go (pressure and gut spasms) well I notice this big hole where that tag is (I can't tell you what a shock and how upsetting it looked to me) and I know now why I'm burning so bad. What is it? It was scary to see. Is it a ulcer or fissure gone bad or are there fisstula there at the anal opening? I'm so scared really it was freaky and scary looking. I will call the doc ASAP, but I'm guessing stool or acid gets in it and sits a burns. I'm on cipro antibiotics right now, maybe this will help. I guess the most important thing to do is get down the inflammation. I'm going to start back on some type of oral meds and do the steriods enemas but I remember those burning like heck! Any suggestions, really I'm so scared of what I saw, why me???? I think it's years of pressure/straining/spasms when I go to that bathroom finally caught up with me.

I wanted to add, seriously if there's a GI on staff at emergency room I would go, we don't even have one in our town! Would you go if you new there was a GI in emergency for them to take a look?

I would try to get into my own GI ASAP. It's unlikely there's a GI in the emergency room. Even if there were, the ER's job is to save the lives of people who are possibly dying and to stabilize others until they can get to their own doctor. The staff there would not have your history and that's important in making a diagnosis.

I know this is very upsetting, but it isn't life-threatening, so you might wait for a long time if the ER is busy. I'd only go there if I couldn't get into my GI or my primary care doctor within the next week.

I would call the GI that is on call this weekend to see what they recommend that you do. I had a perianal abscess/pimple last weekend that hurt like a mother then it popped. I was sure I was going to be left with a fistula. I called the GI on call Saturday and Sunday, I'm sure I annoy them but that's what they are there for. He assured me it wasn't an emergency and to make an appt. that Monday. I went in and it was nothing. I hope it is the same for you. I know how scary it can be to have to wait all weekend to get something looked at.

It's either a fistula or a burst abscess- neitehr of which require the ER. But both would explain your symptoms as of late. The best thing to do is sit in a hot bath, let the water really clean it out- even if you wind up taking 4-6 baths a day! It is the wknd after all.... good luck! And while these are both mentally unpleasant, as long as you keep it clean (& you're already on antibiotics) you'll be fine- I've had a fistula for 18 months now with absolutely no problems. Aside from the mental ones...... rolleyes   Your GI may suggest you take Flagyl too, just to prevent infection.

I totally didn't intend to slap you in any way, sorry if it seemed that way. There is just a lot of misunderstanding about what emergency rooms do, and I see people wasting hours waiting, only to be told "take a sitz bath four times a day and call your doctor on Monday." Or worse yet, they're given penicillin for an abcess by a doc who rarely sees IBD and doesn't know how sick that will make them.

It's almost always better to wait and call your own doctor unless it's something that might kill you or make you much worse if you wait until office hours.

I agree with the view expressed by Eva. Please have it checked. It could be an abscess, which has turned into a fistula. I had a peri-anal abscess/pimple in October 2003, which was treated by my surgeon. Unfortunately, the same, later on seems to have resulted into an abscess and then horse shoe fistula. It is now communicating with my J pouch and always abscessing, leaking since last 3 years.

So don't neglect. Don't ignore such goose pimples. They may be scarry.

Judilyn OMG no I didn't take it that way at all, you've been great for me and my posts. You know I seem to over react, I just need a slap to get myself in control. You truly helped me calm down, b/c I was so worried, I needed that reassurance, that is what I meant by the slap. Your so sweet! Thank you!!!!!

Glad you're feeling better...do you have an appt to get the opening in your skin checked?

Yes, be sure to follow up on this with your GI. I'm glad you're feeling better in the meantime.
