Pred. tapered to 30mg & flare came back : (

I was fine at 60-50-40mg and after about a week of being at 30mg i started having a flare. I went back up to 40 mg and it's a little better but i'm still going to the bathroom 5-8 times a day but no blood or cramping. I haven't spoke to my gi yet. Anyone else flare while tapering? I'm on asacol too. My gi prescribed the mp6 a couple months back when I was having a real bad flare but I never took any of it since the prednisone was working fine. How long can a person stay on prednisone without tapering? I don't really have any side effects from it except for occasional depression and anger but it's worth not having a flare.

It's VERY common to take pred while starting on 6mp, because 6mp can take a while to kick in, and the pred keeps the symptoms under control in the mean time.

You should both be aware that there are some SERIOUS long-term side effects, such as osteoporosis, that can result from prednisone use, and that aren't as noteciable as other side effects like insomnia and moonface. I'd much rather have surgery than use prednisone extensively.

     Cadillac...I think they say do not drink alcohol is that it can affect the liver.  You don't want to wind up with cirrhosis.  I drink an occassional glass of wine though.
