8wk old pup w bloody stool

I noticed a little blood and mucus and my pups stool yesterday and became very concerned especially since I have UC. So after reading the net about parvovirus I think she may have got this. It's highly contageous and only spread through feces. It can live in favorable environments for 9 months. It doesn't affect humans, I guess our immune system is more protective against it than puppies.

Well I think it's similar to UC in a way b/c it affects the lining of the colon and there is NO CURE for it as well.

I'm very upset b/c i took so much care and precautions on this trip i took to see my gma this weekend. It was even the 3rd week after her first parvo/deworming shot. I have put so much time and effort in house training her and to see blood on her stools was sad. her two stools this morning didn't have blood all over but only had red at the end/last of the stool. :( I'm taking her to the vet in an hour to see what they say...

poor doggie! Animals can get UC too, so it may be that. They say vomiting is the most common symptom of parvovirus, so don't freak out yet! good luck.

Just some comforting words: I had a pup that had Parvo once and he fully recovered. He was in the animal hospital for about a week and a half. But my pup was vomiting, not drinking or eating either plus he had D. So maybe it's not Parvo but rather just a bug your pup picked up.

Do all puppies have worms?

Intestinal parasites are common in puppies. Puppies can become infected with parasites before they are born or later through their mother’s milk. Deworming will be done at the first visit and then repeated in two weeks. It is important that it be repeated because the deworming medication only kills the adult worms. Within a few weeks, the larval stages will have become adults and will need to be treated. When your puppy is a little bit older, we will recommend checking a stool sample to be sure that the deworming was effective.

Tapeworms are another common intestinal parasite of dogs. Puppies become infected with them when they swallow fleas; the eggs of the tapeworm live inside the flea. When the dog chews or licks its skin as a flea bites, the flea may be swallowed. Dogs infected with tapeworms will pass small segments of the worms in their stool. The segments are white in color and look like grains of rice. It is very important to keep your pet on year-round flea control.

Phew,,, it's not parvovirus. Or at least little Raven (Ravie) passed the test. They put a long q-tip into her colon and test on a thing kind of like a pregnancy test. It came out all reddish. Poor thing. She still has large appetite and is still playfull so hopefully we caught whatever it is fast enough for the antibiotics to take care of things. Vet said it was probably some kind of virus or bacteria and gave me antibiotics for her to take twice a day.
Thanks for all the replies and I'll do my best to take care of her and maybe both our bleeding booties will get better.lol I was just wondering if she maybe ate some TP from my RR out of the trash but I don't think so... I gave her a tsp of my kifer today with her lunch just in case, i hope it doesn't hurt her.

Hope little Raven is fine!  That was my maiden name by the way. 

We love our puppy - Penny is really not a puppy - she is 9 and blind and how much we have done for her over the years.  She is truly a member of our family as I am sure Raven is!

Glad it wasn't parvo and that your pup is ok. I have 3 dogs and they are my babies!
