First Remicade Infusion...Yay!

Hello everyone.  Just wanted to thank everyone here for being so encouraging.  Lonielane wanted me to keep everyone updated on my first Remicade infusion because I was so nervous about it.  I had my first one yesterday, and it was a piece of cake.  I don't want to jinx anything, but I think there has definately been an improvement.  I'm not 100% yet, obviously, but for the first time in many, many months, I've used the bathroom with no blood at all.  I'm very hopeful, also for the first time in a long, long, LONG time.  Wish me luck, and for any of you out there about to start the 'cade (and everyone else for that matter), good luck to you too!

Yay! It worked for me right away. I've had just two infusions so far.

I was very skeptical at first.  I was diagnosed in 2004 and it's been nothing but downhill since then.  Everyone I've talked to said Remicade might be just what I needed, and even the nurse who administered the infusion said she's gotten extremely positive feedback.  I guess I'm just happy that I'm feeling relatively good for a change, and wanted any other scardy cats like myself to know that there's nothing to be nervous about. :-)

Yeah for you!! I felt a little silly about all my nervous posts pre-Remicade when I got my first infusion and saw what a piece of case the whole process was. I dragged my daughter along for the first one because I was afraid of being alone if I had some kind of reaction, poor thing was bored out of her gourd, but she was 17 at the time and understood why I wanted her to tag along.

Hey LibraryChick, glad to hear the great news! I'm happy that the infusion was a piece of cake for you and that your symptoms are beginning to diminish. I hope things keep improving for you! *****Hurray*****

I start on Tuesday 6/23 with my first infusion with Remicade.  I'm also very, very uneasy about starting Remicade as well.  I have UC that developed into pancolitis within 4 years after first UC dx of proctitis.  Within the 4 years I have tried many meds and currently on 4 Lialda's a day, tapering off prednisone currently at 15mg, (but my body has the aches and pains now as well) and rowasa 1 nightly.  This has helped, but I had reaction to the prednisone (effecting my legs) and blood vessels.  I just pray that this works for me.  Question:  Did you feel ok right after the treatment?  No flu like symptoms for 24 hours, etc?  Now that's it been a few days, are you still doing ok?  I'm so ready to try this, because I barely have the energy to work, and cook dinner for the family.

Hey hopeful, I was the same way before Remi. I was very sick, couldn't function at all! I was actually looking forward to the infusion as I hoped it would bring the relief I was looking for...and it did. Good luck with your infusion. p.s. I've always felt pretty good after the infusion; during it I usually sleep, so a nice nap is always great! Now my infusion time is down to 1 1/2 hours so I take Zyrtec or Claritin instead of the Benedryl, which makes me less sleepy.

Hey Carol!  Thanks for the encouraging words!  I am looking forward to my first treatment, because I need to feel better.  I am just trying to get through the weekend with commitments, fun ones, but it will take alot out of me.  I really hope this works, and I hope I respond well with very minimal side effects.  Even now tapering off the prenisone (below 20mg) I'm starting to feel bad again and more trips to the bathroom (Ugh).  I'll let you know how it goes.  Anyway, thanks for the words!! What a journey this has been...I think I would of picked something else, but it picked me.
