pred taper and headaches

Have just come back from dr who said the headaches i have been getting are due to pred taper am to stay on 10mg for another week and then taper 10 one day and 5 the next for a week then 5 and see how this goes if headaches are no better to go to a higher dose of pred and taper more slowly just when i thought all was going well U/C sucks

I do agree with  you - sucks!

I tapered to 10 mg. a few days ago and waking up every day with headache and then today very sick with sweats, nausea, etc. etc.  Also, increased 6 MP a week ago to 75  mg. - not sure which is doing or both - I am thinking about increasing prednisone to 15 mg. and reducing 6 MP to 50 mg. to see what happens.  Of course, I will put in a call to my NP/doctor.

Hey Elaine, it might be better to do one or the other...increase the pred OR decrease the 6MP. If you do both and improve, you won't know why! So maybe decrease the 6MP first (since it's probably more important to get off the pred) and leave the pred at 10mg and see what happens.

Yes, I totally agree.  Prednisone has not given me many problems - only help at higher doses.  BUT - my side effects (symptoms) are most likely related to 6 MP because they are like having the flu - which is what I found from the pharmacy info.  Sweating, nausea, aches, tired, dark urine, etc. (of course, that could be just UC also).  The worst part is that I am not in remission - still blood/mucous, etc. and controlling that with Imodium when I have to go out.  I did that for about a year before diagnosis so thinking I should have continued and forget the gastro doctor.  Well, not really but you know what I mean?
