You will not hear this on national news. Although, if the research had went the other way it would be on every news channel.

Interesting....but they still cannot deternine why.

They didn't state whether the flu viruses the asthmatics had were of the ones in the vaccines or not.

I do know that many kids aren't on any preventer meds, or do they up them when colds or other viruses attack in the event to prevent severe flares.

There are more variables..etc.
I'm talking from my own experience with asthma and intrinsic reactions to colds, etc. When I had the flu....eeks...it was horrific...and I did have the flu vaccine.

Thanks for the link to the site....I've now got it in my faves.

You're totally correct in the news aspect...but the concerns of proper medications and recognising symptoms is a must.

What this article doesn't address is that kids with underlying health issues are more likely to get the vaccine in the first place and are also more likely to require hospitalization when they get sick. So, it's somewhat skewed.

having asthma alone would put them in the category of getting the flu shots. That's the underlying health issue.

From how I read it anyway...

Not all of the kids in the study had asthma. The 3x higher risk of hospitalization if the vaccine was given was among all 263 kids in the study and it doesn't say if they had other underlying health problems. Of kids who had asthma, there was a greater rate of hospitalization if they had the vaccine, but they didn't say what that increase was.

I personally always get the vaccine. The one year I didn't, I got it, and was so sick for over a week that I slept 12 hours at night, and spent the other 12 hours of the day dozing on the couch. Then I was run down for at least another two weeks. Luckily, the worst of it was over Christmas break, as I was a junior in college and had a really heavy class load!

Oh...must read it again, obviously.

Some kids may not have been diagnosed asthmatic possibly.

The flu definitely sucks....I hope to never have it again...I can feel my teeth chattering and hear my moans and groans from that time. horrific.

Here's to staying "healthy"..haha
