Any chance a sore lower back has anything to do with UC?

I NEVER used to get a sore lower back until this year. It's not all the time but when it happens it sure slows me down. I just want to curl up into a ball...with a glass of wine, heating pad, etc. Hard to do with two young children.
(I'm in good physical shape and my weight is low)

Don't use heat if you lift or turn wrong and irritate it at least for 72 hours. You will make it worse. Mine can be more prone to irritation during a flare, but I still have to do something to make it hurt.

I never had a sore lower back until just a couple of years ago, too. MRI showed it is caused by some slightly bulging discs in that area, can't blame it on UC.

Try ice when it bothers you. I made the mistake of using heat for a while. Heat feels good, but actually makes the inflammation worse. Ice works much better for me. I automatically put some on after gardening or golf. I also broke down and had some epidural shots earlier this year when it was aggravating my sciatic nerve (ouch!) and not getting better.

Mine is definitely from UC.  Only happens when my rectal/left sided area is inflammed, etc.  I put heat on it and feels much better.

I'll have lower back pain when I'm flaring. It's kind of a dull pain for me.

I have left sided UC and have always had a very sore lower back when flaring. If I touch my back just over the SI joint, just to the side of my spine, it's even sore to the touch.

Surprisingly, stretching and abdominal strengthening exercises sometimes help a bit.

I'm brand new to this forum but have been reading for a few days ....

I have had lower back pain, mainly right above the tailbone area. Most of the time from the waist down aches. The only thing that brings relief is a hot bath for me.

Wow - sounds like a lot of us have sore lower backs. I'm constipated today so I'm sure that's not helping.

I had some lower back pain during my last flare. I seem to have it when im in a bad flare
I when in to a nice warm tub and it calmed it down pretty well. :D

I find during a flare going to the bathroom constantly and the straining gives me a bad back ache- dealing with one right now. It throbs when I lie down.

It is only when laying down that I get relief whenever my back really aches. Of course, hubby and I bought a 4 inch memory foam bed topper and it feels like a dream when you lay down!
