Am i still flaring! Help!!

Hi,
my GI asked me to double my Canasa 15 days back, she asked me to continue with canasa my symptoms improve or else start oral Lialda 3Xday after 2 weeks with double canasa. My question is i m not able to figure out if my condition is improving??

1. Earlier when ever i used rest room - i used to get blood and mucus each time. Now from the day i started canasa during day, i try to walk less to retain it and and empty it out at around 5:00 pm.. but after that the medicine keeps coming out after every half an hour + little blood till 9:00 pm when i apply my second canasa. I dnt know if there is mucus also as it is all dark brown/purple color of medicine + decreased blood than before. How does your canasa come out - in one go OR 3-4 rounds to rest room?

2. I used to have constipation in morning and there is still no change in that.

I will not be able to explain this to my GI, we understand it better than our doctors! I want to stick to mild medicines as long as possible (am 5 months old into this). Should i start Lialda or stick with canasa for some more time??

I agree totally with quincy. You should be on both an oral and a rectal ASA med. I think that an enema might be more effective than the suppository because they reach higher. Also, Lialda isn't a harsh drug at all. It's in the class of drugs that have the least potential long-term side effects, so don't worry about that!
