death from IBD

I was wondering if you can die from colitis? My dads boss did die of chrones, so I presume you can die of colitis as well. Has anyone heard of this? Let me know as I am a bit worried about what future I will have. I’m feeling better now that I am on a new diet but I wonder how long it last.

No need to fear. The chances of that happening are almost impossible. The only way I can see if someone died of Uc is from the complications that arose. But they would have to be pretty severe and for a long time such as chronic D (dehydration) or anemia.

The chances of someone dying from Crohns is slim too and the same things can apply. Of course CD is more serious because of the possibility of bowel preforation but something like that would have to have been manifesting for a long time. My mother died from the complications of Crohns and obesity. She just had a moronic doctor and she went undiagnosed until the time of her death which ultimately was due to sepsis (due to bowel preforation) leading to a heart attack.

It would be from "complications of" more than the disease itself.

There's a lot to say for having things controlled.

CD is a disease that goes deeper and can affect the entire depth of the intestinal walls...and it can show up anywhere from mouth to anus...to controling it and dealing with possible fistulas, infections, blockages, etc would be necessary.

With UC, as possibly with CD, there are extraintestinal disease linked....but as with everything, the key is to have things dealt with at early stages.

Medications can cause side effects that can affect organs....so, that wouldn't be directly from the disease itself.

I wouldn't worry....focus more on feeling good and recognising symptoms at early stages and deal with them quickly.

Knowing the facts of the disease, how it affects you and learning symptoms of your flares as early as possible and dealing with them is really the key.

At least, that's what's worked for me in the past 20+ years.

I do have UC-related liver disease....connected, but separate. It's fatal, but not terminal...go figure. Early stages, and I hope it stays that way. I can die from something else before it gets me.

Autoimmune disease likes to come with company...
