Thanks quincy.
My father has always maintained that his cancer was the direct result of exposure to dioxins during the Vietnam War. He was/is a heavy smoker, which no doubt contributed (minor tumors were also found on his lungs).
The surgeon gave my father a 1/3 chance of survival at the time of diagnosis, saying that he'd be lucky to survive past Christmas. His esophagus and two thirds of his stomach were removed during surgery, before he underwent radio and chemo. Good news is, he actually made a full recovery and has been in the all clear for 10 years now.
