Anti-Spasmodic Drug?

Is anyone taking this anti-spasmodic? I was prescribed this, but can not start taking it until after my colonoscopy Friday.

Yes, I take Dicyclomine (Bentyl) whenever I'm having problems. It works well for me...makes me a little drowsy/dizzy...but it's worth not having any cramps or urges.

I take the bentyl, It helps. Excpet for when things are extreme.

I just combination eat. It works and you will never need those durgs. If you have ibd it will not solve all your porblems but if you have ibs then it will. I wish i only had ibs i would be able to cure it with no drugs

I have used these and they have been very effective :

1) Duspatalin 135mg (mebeverine hydrochloride, COLOFAC®) 3 times daily on empty stomach (before meals).

2) Visceralgine 2ml IM [Tiemonium methylsulfate] much stronger antispasmodic for intense spams for a short period (or painful days "as required" ).

3) Probably is the most effective and dangerous in long term (due to dependence and possible side effects) is Calmepam [Bromazepam] 1.5mg/3mg for pain + spasms.

Controlling inflammation and disease activity is the solution for long term spasms control, so that should be your ultimate goal with meds + diet mods.

I was prescribed bentyl before and it didn't do a darn thing for me. Was still in excruciating pain only with the bentyl I had a pounding heartbeat too. Hopefully it works for you!

Thank you. The Mesalamine enemas did not help me and were painful actually when not flaring and during flares I got sick (they caused me flu-like symptoms). Apriso is the Mesalamine which I'm using and it reaches my entire colon. Appreciate it.

It may likely have been the sulfite in the Rowasa. In the US we have these non-sulfite mesalamines (5-ASA's): Asacol HD, Canasa, Rowasa, Pentasa, Delzicol, Lialda, Apriso, Salofalk

So, I'm currently having success with Apriso
I tried Asacol a long time ago but it was not Asacol HD as I recall (game me headaches). I did try Lialda and (Pentasa or Canasa - can't recall which) the enemas just didn't reach far enough for me.

As you likely know, Apriso is coated a polymer which breaks down in the entrance of the colon and allows the medication to release and heal starting deep into the colon, which I need. So, it's topically applied in that sense and I see no need for mesalamine enemas unless you or others believe different. I get problems all over the colon and it seems to be worse in the descending and transverse but has been as far as the ascending.

I do appreciate you pointing out the fact that all these old boxes of Rowasa I have contain potassium sulfate (I'll probably throw them out). Might be what was burning (my sister had the same reaction).
The flu like symptom occurred when I used them when my colon was severely ulcerated so I'm assuming the medication went systemic (yea, really sick feeling followed). During that time I also got very ill if I tried to hold in a bm (I assume I was holding so hard that the stool went systemic - could have been small perforations). Colon was in bad shape during different flares.

My insurance covers a three month's supply for $70 for non-generics which is nice as this stuff was so costly when I purchased them prior to the mail order pharmacy. Shame to throw 8 boxes of these out. Believe they're expired anyway.

Bentyl isn't suppose to be pain reliever. Of course you are going to be in pain.
