Possibly moving to different drug.....or maybe surgery?

For about 2 months now I have been taking the colozal enemas on a nightly basis, and tappering down from 5 to 4 mgs on my prednisone. My doc saying if I flare up again, we will go straight to 6MP. My question is this......what is the general consensus from those of you on the drug? What are the side effects and how long have you been on it?

If it does not work, then it could be Humira and even surgery after that.

Diagnosed last August. Have been on prednisone for all but 3 weeks and have flared up twice.

I've been on 6MP about six years now. No, it has not kept me in remission. However, I have had UC going on eleven years and my UC is still located in the rectum and hasn't traveled further into the colon. Maybe the 6MP prevents this? Who knows? I also am on Colazal, nine pills daily. Presently I am in a flare and trying to stay off the prednisone. So, taking Cort enemas..a.m and p.m. I wasn't bleeding until the doctor stuck that sigmoidoscope up my tush yesterday and upset the apple cart...now bleeding
