In the months prior to his dx, my son started sleepwalking, during which times he would lose control of his bowels. He still does this. Anyone else experience this? Or any other sleep problems?

I sleptwalked (is that the past tense of sleepwalk???) occasionally when I was a kid, but I didn't have UC then. I can see why he'd loose control of his bowels when he sleepwalks, though. When I was flaring and would have to get up with my son at night (he's almost 8 months), I'd ALWAYS have to run to the bathroom. Being up and moving after seemed to get things moving. Aren't people in a really deep sleep when they're sleepwalking? If so, that makes sense why he wouldn't wake up and realize he's got to poo.

It's weird. He'll get up and try to
open the front door. I'll ask him where he's going and he says 'to the bathroom'. Or he'll wander around the kitchen and go over to the computer. He always says 'to the bathroom'. I think some part of him knows he has to go. It's just so creepy to watch....He's not losing control as much now as when he first started doing it but I think that's because he's got a bit more control with the prednisone even though his stool isn't any firmer.
Just one more thing for the doctors to look at me like I'm crazy for.... :P

For several years I sleepwalked.
Haven't for quite a while.
It's not related to my UC, but I can tell you from the walker's experience what it is like. I was always trying to go outside, and would get lost in the house often, sometimes stuck in a corner, and sometimes make it outside.
My husband would come to retrieve me, he would speak firmly to me, and lead me back. The next day I had little to no recollection of the event.
When he was speaking loudly to me, all I would hear would be a faint whisper, barely noticeable. He said I would carry a conversation, and talk normal, and look awake.
It was just weird, I have no bad feelings about
it, because I recall so little. I recall stories of when I was a child, that I sleepwalked. Seems to occur during unstable times in my life.

I'm a sleepwalker and have been since before I had UC, when I had UC, and now without a colon. Several times I have answered the same question upon where I am going...To the bathroom!! However, I have never lost control of my bowels or of my urine. I enjoy these random episodes and usually remember them in the morning. Oh, and I also have vivid dreams of which I remember too.
