What would you consider a severe flare or minor flare?

Hi all, I had a question maybe someone would like to answer from experience. What would you consider a sever flare-up compared to a minor flare-up? Over the last 24 hrs I have been to the bathroom non-stop ( i actually counted 50 times on a piece of paper) . There seems to be just bloody-mucous mixed with what looks like stomach bile. I am so tired I can't barely get from the couch to the bathroom without feeling like I've runa marathon (pathetic, I know). But I want to hear from others out there at what point they feel they are in a sever flare-up. With this dreaded scope I have coming up teusday that seems to be consuming my everyday life, I just want to make sur that if they are going in, they find something so I don't have to do this again anytiem soon. I may sound like a baby whining about this but beacause of the 2 experiences I've had with scopes, they are like taboo to me. I understand that all of you have gone through the same tests and went through the unpleasantness of everything and I don't mean to seem like I don't think you have all experienced it the same. I just feel like giving up at this point and waving the white flag. Any feelings on this or suggestions on how to get out of this depressed rutt I am in?

Hi Darla....I think the term "marathon" flare can pretty much sum up what's happening to you...

Regarding depression....I think you're between a rock and a hard place, and the only thing is to either tough it out until you have a definitive diagnosis. I hope this doctor will be kind in the scoping and have meds at the ready for you to get better soon...OR, go to the hospital asap.

I thought 20 times a day of pooing bloody razor blades was horrific...I cannot imagine 50, truly. Some things I can only imagine...I would probably have to be hospitalised and my colon on complete rest at that point, for I think you may qualify for that (I never suggest colon rest..wow, a first time for everything).

When is the scope?

To me it sounds sever. I have never been to the loo 50 times. My max was 20 and also I had major stomach cramps. That left me not able to do anything except sleep. I realized the stomach craps that were spasms all over were apparently IBS symptoms. Combination eating sorted this out for me, it also decreased (not solved) the D. What are you eating in the day maybe it will help if you list your foods and post them , I know there are no guarantees in our world, but you may be able to get good advice. I have and my problem is not solved but I am better.

It sounds like you are in a severe flare. I think you need to get the scope soon so your doctors can help you get better! I hope you feel better soon.

You poor girl, that is a bad flare I would say. I don't know what drugs they gave you, but if you got worse since starting on them I would seriously wonder if they are making your worse or not helping at all.

sounds like me... SEVERE FLARE for sure!

i go about 35-45 times a day. and i actually vomit each time from the horrendous pain.
involuntary puking out one end and bloody squirts out the other end. im like a fountain of blood and pain.
a horror movie!

sorry to hear you are in this state. i am too and it is horrible. i jsut want to die sometimes.
i wimper and moan like a mental person when im on the can. sounds like im having a baby and im only trying to get some blood out.
its not even poos. its nuts.

and bloody razor blades sums it up well. how about the big lava rock with hundreds of sharp jagged nails and glass protruding from it that slowly scrapes through your colon.
cant even roll up into a ball in fetal position to help. i cant escape from the pain. its so horrible.

and scopes.... well i have had a lot of them and they dont tell ya anything new thats for sure. hey steph, your in a flare! oh reallly, is tht what this is? i wasnt sure, thanks for clearing that up.
how bout i just continue to take all these meds that do nothing like i always do and see what happens. ok.

I've never kept count of my trips to the toilet but I know I was going 20 when I was in a moderate flare. I think 50 times is severe. I hope you are feeling better soon!

You are in a severe flare up-what you are describing is pretty much what landed me in the hospital. It was a struggle to even get up to go to the bathroom, even though I was in the bathroom non-stop. I was managing ok until my period started, and I went downhill FAST.

Upside though-going to the hospital was the turning point for me. I got help immediately-the flare was much more controlled right away by pred. And it also got the flag up for my GI doc, who was able to get me into the Humira trial I am in now as a result of all of this. I had a colonoscopy a few days after being released, and even though I wasn't going to the bathroom as much, they saw PLENTY of ulceration. It as the hardest prep I have ever had to do, no doubt.

I don't know that I have a lot of advice for you, but please be careful and read your body's signals. I fought going to the hospital tooth and nail, but in the end, it was the best thing for me to do and set me on the road to the state I am in today-which is as close to remission as I will ever come. I hope you can get things under control and start feeling better.

50 times is high..... it is a severe flare up.
