hello hellokitty!
well, i had a very very very severe flare back in 06/07 that lasted for a year and a half.
i was hospitalised and everything. very horrible and painful. lost heaps of weight. (i weighed 95lbs at end of it)
full on flare from hell!
so i went to a dietician.
we tried the low residue diet for months.
liquid diet for months.
elimination diet.
every diet you can think of.
even practically fasting and starting over again.
we had diaries and recorded everything.
not a single thing made a difference.
the liquid diet did help only in the fact that my colon had a chance to rest as no solids went through it.
but there was still blood EVERY SINGLE time and pain and the howling, cramping and horribleness that went with it whenever i pooped.
blood and pain and diarrehea (if you can call it that, since it was mostly blood and bits) everytime i went to the toilet (16+ times a day, up to 30).
i would say that diet didnt matter in my case.
doctor and dietician agreed.
so i went back to eating whatever i wanted with the same effect.
and i got better too when i stopped the diet thing and didnt care.
i will say, that things like refried beans, that gave me gas did cause extra discomfort.
sesame seeds hurt as well. it didnt 'trigger' anything as i was in a flare anyway, but it was more painful on its way out while i was sitting on toilet and about an hour or 2 before. when its moving through.
but with a raw, ulcerated, bloody, tender colon, ANYTHING will hurt .
a lot of people swear by diet. everyone is different with this disease and what works for them.
i spent a small fortune that year and a half trying to fix myself. some people are fixed by aloe elite and other 'miracle' products. i was not.
i gave it all a go to try it and see, but it didnt work.
the only REAL answer is try it out yourself. test and measure. see what works for YOU.
what works for one doesnt work for all.
so diet may work for you.
and i will say.. that when i am in remission, i can eat anything! and i mean anything. nothing that goes in my mouth will 'trigger' a flare.
for me it is purely stress related or like this time, when i quit smoking.
so diet is not a factor for ME.
