Was in contact with a friend with shingles prior to this latest flare.....hmmmm?

     I was just reading through the posts, forget which one and they mentioned shingles.  A few days before I started flaring this time (about three weeks ago or so), we went out with friends.  I was sitting right next to her when she mentioned she had the shingles!  I never put two and two together until today.  Never even mentioned it to my GI doctor whom I saw yesterday.  Wonder if it is related somehow and if it contributed to my flare?  Of course I would never tell this woman.   They are good friends.  She would feel so bad.

People taking immunosuppressant meds are generally advised to avoid contact with known viral carriers. This means that you should not help tend your friend's shingles rash or come in contact with her saliva or other body fluids. However, just being around her in a group should not endanger you as long as there was adequate air circulation & good hygiene practiced otherwise. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

I had shingles on my right leg several days after a colonoscopy last year. I was flaring and was taking Azathioprine. I never thought my shingles might be related to my UC until I read this thread.
It was a nightmare for me last year---a bad flare which lasted for 10 months, DVT on my left leg due to diarrhea and dehydration, then shingles on my right leg after a colonoscopy. (Did I get it in the hospital?)
And I was asked to wear compression stockings for the rest of my life.
