Prednisone "Burst" Question

What a week... I now have two kiddos on Prednisone.

Son started yesterday after his scope on Wed. and daughter started today. She's been flaring for a week and was kind of holding steady - not getting better, but not getting too much worse until late yesterday afternoon when the pain level rose and diarrhea really began.

This morning same - increased pain & D. Of course, we're going into the weekend so I called her doctor this morning. She ordered 4 days of Pred 20mg am & 20mg pm then drop in half to 10mg am & 10mg pm.

Anyone ever hear of doing it this way? Any success with doing it this way?

Tuesday we did up her colazal from 3 per day to 4 per day and upped her 6MP from 12.5 to 25mg.

The doctor was so sweet and gave me her home phone number in case we needed anything over the weekend!!!!

When I was on pred, I did 40mg (split into 4 10mg doses) for 5 days. However, it was actually just 4.5 days on 40mg, b/c I got it filled midday and just took two 10mg doses that first day. Then I dropped to 30mg for 5 days, 20mg for 5 days, etc. I actually think that if I have to use pred again, I'll investigate dropping a bit more quickly as I didn't have any problems and I'd like to use pred as sparingly as possible.
