Hi Pam

I just noticed your thread. I have been on steroids for considerable period of time. Now about four months back I had a vision test, and the doctors suspect it to be Glaucoma. I have been taking Latenoprost eye drops. The doctor told me that it could be because of steroids. It is quite strange that my elder brother, who is also on prednisolone has also been suspected to be having Glaucoma. So the prednisolone is playing the devil's role.

I just came back from the eye doctor's. The last time I went, which was about a half year after tapering off Prednisone, I was told the Glaucoma test results were normal. This time, I asked for the number results, and I was told the intraocular pressure level was 19. Apparently, 10-20 is normal, and anything above is an indication of Glaucoma. Although my results were normal, I was really surprised to find out how close they were to not being normal. I didn't think Glaucoma would be something I would have to worry about, especially since I remember getting my eyes check in my 30s and being told the pressure was really low.

My SIL is an Optometrist and the last time I was on prednisone she asked how I was feeling and I mentioned I was tolerating it well this time around and that the side effects were manageable.  She immediately chimed in and said that even though I'm doing okay with it now, I'll probably end up with Glaucoma when I'm older.  So, it's a known problem amongst eye doctors and health care professionials.  Eeek!!

i had blurry vision and eye issues when i was on pred too. went to eye doctor and my eyes were perfect. he said it was most likely pred and too see if i still had issues when i was done with it. if so, come back... but they went away when i stopped pred.

it is a common side effect with long term use of pred.. glaucoma

ive had pred so many times now that my doc said no more. thats why im starting imuran.
pred didnt use to do anything for me, but the last 3 flares, it has worked. or maybe its combo of pred, tumeric, vitamin d3, fish oil and xango juice.
not sure, but the eye thing cleared up when i stopped pred.
