Well, my sinus/tear duct/whatever infection is back and my left eye area is swelling up and turning purple again. I just finished a z-pack a week ago, so I guess it's resistant to that. Today the PA prescribed Keflex for me. I know it isn't good for my colon, but I also know it's one of the most effective drugs for infections in that area, and I need to get it cleared up.

So if you don't see me for a while it'll be because I'm in the throne room. I'd better stock it with some more books, I guess.

Keflex is awful.  You have my sympathies.  (I don't know if I can ever be convinced to take that drug again.)  I don't know much about such infections, but is there no antibiotic eyedrop that would work?

In my experience, it's always two weeks after I stop that Keflex starts a flare.  If it's the same for you, on the bright side you have a few days to have fun.

I plan to double up on my probiotics, and I have a good store of Imodium on hand.

No, eyedrops won't work because it's not actually in the eye, but either in the sinus or the tear duct. It's so swollen the duct isn't really working now.

My other choice would have been doxycycline, which I know gives me explosive D. within 24 hours. Very nasty.

Fortunately, I'm in a strong remission, so it should be okay in the long run.

I will keep my fingers crossed and hope that the Keflex doesn't cause you any harm. Keflex actually doesn't bother my Uc much. I may have a mild increase of symptoms but that's it. Yes, definately up the probiotics - keep that colon happy at all costs! :)

Yeah, just trying to figure out the logistics of working the pbx in between the three doses of Keflex. I guess since I should take my second Kef about 11, I can take the pbx about 1. Fortunately or not, I rarely get to bed before 3:00 anyway. :(

Keflex, yuck!!!!!!!!! Hope to have you here instead of your being in the throne room. Take care & let us know how you're doing. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Wow Judy....that sucks that the tear duct/sinus infection hasn't been totally eradicated.

Hope the Keflex helps. I've never been on it, so can't comment, but from others' experiences, it sounds iffy.

Keep up the probiotics and have lots of toilet paper on hand with the books..lol! (although I hope you don't have any adverse effects)

Keep us updated as to how you're feeling.

I feel bad for you. I have a bacterial infection in my lungs and a week ago the doctor put me on Spectracef, and as usual anitbiotics put me in the best remission possible. I'm loving it right now. It seems that most people with UC have the opposite reaction to antibiotics. I can't take probiotics because they make me bleed way more. This disease is extremely hard to figure out.

Judilyn Hi,

I was told sinus infection is that of the fungal family and you might want to try a Diflucan, staying away from any food or sugar that is white. It really helped me when I took a Diflucan my sinus cleared right up! Have you heard of this before???

Hi, all. Thanks for your support.

So far, I'm hanging in there. My stools last night (3 - 1 or 2 more than normal) were a pretty "fluffy" but not liquid. It started within 3 hours of my first Keflex dose. I started taking an Imodium with each Keflex, and today my belly feels like there might be quarreling puppies in it, but no D.

The good news is that the swelling has gone down a bit when I would have expected my eye to be swollen shut this morning without the antibiotics. I'm going to really try to stick it out because I know other abx would be less effective.

I think it's a tear duct blockage that's now infected based on the symptoms. I already had my periodic eye doctor appointment scheduled for later this month, so hopefully I can get some answers there.
