Ulcerative colitis colonoscopy prep

My 17 year old son just did this prep a couple weeks ago and said it was very tolerable. It is also the prep they often give kids and most do very well with it. My son liked it much better than the GoLytly.

I did the Miralax/ducolax prep. Wasn't too bad. Mixed the Miralax with orange Gatorade. Didn't make me sick, though I didn't want to drink orange Gatorade any time soon!

Not to scare you but it made me very sick. I think the dulcolax didn't do anything until I was already empty and it made my stomach cramp up but there was nothing left to push out. I ended up on the toilet with cramps, throwing up into a garbage. Next time I will ask for something else.

That's what I had to use. I mixed the Miralax with Crystal Light to avoid drinking a ton of sugar. I threw it all up, though. I had been very nauseous for months, though, so I knew I probably wouldn't be able to keep it down. I was also so sick at that point that I really had nothing to clean out, so it ended up fine.

Thanks to all for your replies - they wree very helful. I found the miralax/ducolax prep to be tolerable, and much better than the others. I did have trouble getting all 64 oz. down & threw up some, and it took me a long time to finish it all. I did 1/2 gatorade & 1/2 crystal light. Did have some nauseua. However, this was the first time, in 4 procedures, that I didn't go into the procedure horribly sick, and have been feeling relatively ok today, afterward. I'm new here but have a lot of empathy about the different preps. All the liquid preps gave me nausea and vomiting. My doctor gave me OsmoPrep Tablets. You have to take 32 tablets (not all at once) but you can take them with water, ginger ale, gatorade. You still need to drink quite a bit of liquid for the flushing out process, but at least it's not a salty liquid. Some people don't care for them because they have difficulty swallowing pills, but I much prefer them to any of the liquid solutions. You still need the enemas.


Current meds: Azasan 150mg, Asacol 2400 mg, Tincture of Opium
The best med I have ever used for chronic bleeding of 5 years was Budesonide (short chain fatty acid enema). It was difficult to find (has to be prepared by appointment and not every pharmacy has the ingredients or expertise), very expensive, not fun to administer, but it stopped my bleeding in one month, I tapered for two months and I haven't had a recurrence of bleeding for a year and a half.
