I've also posted this on the Crohns page,
Has anyone ever suffered with external ulceration, I had a fistulotomy on wednesday so I'm quite sore anyway, but I seem to have a ulcer type sore that has developed on the opposite side around the base of my skin tag (doesn't my bottom sound attractive!!), lymph nodes are up on that side also, fun,fun,fun.
So just wondering if anyone else has had ulcer type sores develop externally?

     Yes, this happened to my last year.  The ulcerations started to form on the outside of my rectum and vaginal area.  Very painful.  The pain radiated down to the knees on the insides of both legs.  I even went to my gynocologist thinking I had ulcerations in my vagina.  At the time, I was too ill for her to even do a pap smear.  She was so concerned.  However, about a month later she was able to perform the procedure and said that all was clear in the vaginal area but that I was very inflamed in the rectum.  Needless to say she didn't do a rectal exam..lol.  That flare lasted seven months with a hospitalization of ten days...whew.  What an ordeal!

     I am now in yet another flare but hoping things will subside soon.  This is my second month.

I don't think it's normal for UC to have perianal ulcerations....but haven't done any research on it.

have you had them checked via smear to make sure it's not herpes or if it's a benign apthous ulcer...then I would think it could be related if it's apthous.

No I haven't had that checked, but I've never had any STIs and I have been screened. I just seems a bit odd, I wonder if it's related to the trauma of the surgery. It only came up yesterday.

seems it's possible to have come after your surgery and as I edited my above post...if it's checked by swabs and found to be apthous...I would think it's UC related.

and regarding genital herpes..it might not show up unless there is trauma or excessive stress. I'm not saying it is...just that it's something that sits and waits for a very long time until showing up.

I feel for you and all you're having to go through...you're truly one tough cookie!

Hope all gets sorted out...

Just looked up some images, looks like one of those canker sores. I'll call the GP tomorrow if it's still looking angry.
I have to say I had a sense of humour bypass at the weekend, no amount of pain relief was helping with this big gaping wound they've left me with,
thanks again Quincy, all the other ulcers they've swabbed have grown nothing but I'll definately request it if I need to go back up the docs again.

Are you able to use any medication on the areas...at least something pain-relieving such as lidocane?

I have a friend who will be going through CD-related major fistula surgeries...she's had a few in the past, but soon will hopefully have more done to help deal with some of them forever. I truly don't know the extent that either of you would be going through, but it's a fearful thing for me to imagine.

Hope you get some relief...but it's always good to get anything new checked fully rather than to be assumed it's related. Early intervention of anything excessive would be helpful in your healing.

Keep us pusted as to hew you're doing.

On closer inspection that patch of skin is where one end of the seton is resting and rubbing! I've padded it now, and you're absolutely right about getting things checked out fully, so I will. If I hadn't ingnored what my body was telling me for so long maybe I wouldn't be in this much of a state now, but that said my GP never seemed overly concerned so I think that lulled me into a false sense of security.

We all do it sometimes...assuming as well as ignoring symptoms.

Taking a look-see is now to your benefit to have the irritation / inflammation improve.

Maybe your situation wasnt so bad when you talked to the GP....at least you were continuing to worry once things changed.

Hope that particular discomfort has been dealt with.

Do you have to do sitz baths??

I was not spoken to be the surgeon post op so I'm kind of winging it, sitz baths have never been mentioned.
New problem this morning the seton has disappeared...........just waiting for the doctors surgery to open.

oh my....is it normal for them to "disappear" as in normally fall out? What is the outcome of the call to the surgeon's?

More surgery scheduled for the $th of August, to put the seton back.
He said when they were examining they could find nothing on the right (where the ulcer is), on examination today he says that there is definately something going on, so they are going to try and sort it all out under the anasthetic.
Last surgery was done in the Day Surgery Unit, this time I'm coming into the main theatres (unfortunately I work in the recovery section of these theatres). I'm not sure how comfortable I am with my work collegues being eyewitnesses to this!

Well, awesome you're getting in....not so good having your butt available for all to see.

The other option is to have it done at another hospital....but in reality, the people you work with will probably give you the utmost care.

It's good there's something happening in the way that your suffering is because of "nothing'...

Hope the doc gets this resolved for you and recovery can start in earnest.

well being where you have to work poeple will know that you are not just making up things and asking for time off just for the fun of it, would if ya still ccan be on the clock since you will be there. lol
