We used to have a dog and 2 cats for the longest time (when our kids were little and growing up I wanted them to enjoy and appreciate animals so it was important to me for us to have some pets) but we now just have once cat (and one kid has moved out anyways, she is an adult) so I enjoy just having the one cat whom is very very affectionate (sometimes too affectionate)...I've learned to make sure when I'm home alone to shut the bathroom door otherwise she'l make a point of waltzing in and perching herself upon my shoulders while I sit on the toilet relieving myself (very annoying even though she does it out of love).

We love our cat and can't imagine life without her, but it makes me sad when I think about our last cat that died of old age and how hard that was to go through, yet I set myself up for it again...thank goodness they can live as long as 15 yrs on average and she's only 4yrs now so we have lots of time with her yet (she's strictly indoor).

When my son moves out in a couple of yrs it'll be nice to at least have the cat at home with me while hubby is at work during the day.

Right now we have a sable and white shetland sheepdog named Jackson. We recently lost our other sheltie Sydney a few weeks ago. We are currently looking into buying a puppy or rescuing a abandoned sheltie from a shelter.
I don't know how they do it, but our dogs always knew/know when we aren't feeling well. If I'm home sick Jack will lay by my bed all night long (and he likes to lay on the covers drooped over the side of my bed!) We've always been lucky with getting amazing dogs. Sydney was the sweetest dog ever and Jackson is just a big goof ball. I don't think I could ever go through life without a doggie!

Yay! Another sheltie lover! We also recently lost our oldest sheltie, Callie, a tricolor, who was just a month or so shy of 14 years old. After she went to doggie heaven, we started looking at shelters and sheltie rescues to adopt another one. There are some great sheltie rescues and these sweet angels really need good homes. What's even better is you get to skip the destructive puppy stage. LOL We found our newest sheltie, Sassy, at the local animal shelter. Her family had lost interest in her. They called the shelter to come pick her up and the shelter manager said when they got there, the people had already bought a new puppy. Makes me want to go hunt them down. Miss Sass is just the sweetest girl, is housebroken and walks well on the leash. We think the man of the house was abusive to her as she was very shy around male strangers and would cringe and take off like a shot if someone's feet got too close, but is doing better now.

Oh my god that makes me SICK! They 'lost interest' but went out and bought another puppy!? Ugh, some people...
But yeah, skipping the puppy stage would be great! But on the other hand they are soooo cute when they are puppies!

Miniature lab puppies would be awesome they are soooo cute when they're pups....kittens are the cutest too, but I love animals, babies or adults either way.

Speaking if kittens, yesterday I went to Petsmart with my daughter and we looked at the adoptive kittens/cats. I swear if my husband, daughter AND son weren't allergic to cats I would of SOOOOO got this one 10 week old kitten! LOL She was absolutely beautiful, light gray fur with dark gray stripes, sort of long hair with a strange gray/yellowish eyes and super sweet and playful. Darn those allergies!!!

pb4, my cat also sits on my shoulders while I poo. And he is ten pounds or more so it makes it difficult lol

I have 4 wonderful cats:

Puddles 13, Himalayan, got her from a breeder when she was 10 weeks old

Jasper 7-8, Ragdoll, adopted from the SPCA two years ago

Sweet Pea 5-6 beautiful silver tabby/calico, adopted from a humane society two years ago (after fostering her and her seven kittens)

Rose 2-3 , tiny, brown tabby, semi feral rescue, just adopted from humane society after fostering her and her kitten.

Nothing is more wonderful than a house full of love when I get home from work.

Fun thread!!

I live on a small ranch so I have a few animals... I have 2 horses, Andy and Hank.. they are my BUDDIES and Andy is my Cow Cutting/Team Penning horse and Hank, he's a bit of a hot head and he's my Head horse for calf roping. Plus I use them both for trail riding when it's time to relax... Then I have my 5 dogs. My ABSOLUTELY number 1 dog is Nitro, my little Brussels Griffon.. He's my pocket dog and with me 100 percent of my time.. he even rides in my saddle with me when I go trail riding most times. Then there's Cowboy, my Austrilian Cattle Dog.. he's quite the Heeler.. and probably the smartest dog I have. Then I have 3 German Shepherds, Chevy, Peterson and Holley, they guard the place and watch over my 13 chickens... My chickens are free-range so they wander all over the ranch.... It's really funny to see my dogs and chickens hanging out all togethter... lol... Oh and I have a fish tank.. .which is in my bedroom and soooo soothing to watch at night before falling asleep!

My family has two cats--Piggy and Magic. We all favor Piggy. She really knows how to charm people. Magic is a bit sick. He likes "to do" stuff animals. He used to eat strings and rubber bands. Once he ate a long, thick cotton string that was part of a cat toy. It came out his butt. It was the funniest thing ever, watching him run around in circles, shaking his butt to get the string out. He has never eaten non-food items again after that.

Our cats are quite old and now live with my younger daughter and her latest boyfriend.

My boyfriend has a parrot; so he doesn't want any cats. I really don't like his parrot. She is bossy and noisy, always screeching despite the fact that she likes me and wants me to put her on my shoulder. My boyfriend also has a cockatiel, which he brought home to calm the parrot down. Only it turned out they don't get along, and I didn't want him to return the cockatiel: I already got attached to her. I also have two finches that are busy trying to incubate an egg at the moment.

I've been wanting to an abyssinian for decades. I always end up recusing cats instead.

i must be clucky, i keep getting pets!

i have 2 cats, squib and diego..
squib is 6 and a gorgeous tabby and he's such a cool cat. he goes on walks with us like a dog and eats food like a dog too. he likes chili, chips, cantelope, rice, i mean everything!
squib was with me when i was super sick with a severe flare a few years ago. he followed me everywhere, even to the toilet and hung out in the stench! he likes to drink out of the faucet/tap in the bathroom sink. he also hung out on the bed with me all the time.

diego is 1.5 and he is black with silver stripes underneath. they are getting harder to see as he gets older.
diego is a major cuddle-puss! he loves to be loved.


we just got a puppy a few weeks ago. her name is lucy. she is 14 weeks now and grows every 6 hours i swear! it takes longer for paint to dry! we got her from the AWL (animal welfare league - equivalent to humane society in the U.S.). they told us she was a staffy X kelpie X cattle dog. so she would be small --> medium sized. perfect as we live in a townhouse and we can't have a big dog.
well... we went to vet a week or so ago and they took one look at her and said nuh-uh.. no way... she is definitely german shepard X with staffy or something else. ok.. now its time to go find a house to buy.. we might get kicked out cuz she is gonna be HUGE! she is so freakin cute tho. thank god cuz she is super naughty. but smart at the same time. and she poops almost as much as me! LOL!

and we have a fish tank too! a big one.. 3 feet by 1.5 feet

i luv my babies! they are so entertaining too, which is good when ur stuck at home, stuck on the can, or stuck in bed!

Aww what a cute pup Steph!

Very cool stories everyone. I think it's awesome whoever rescues animals from the streets or shelters. Without people like that, these animals would die or lead very difficult lives.

Joy, one of my friends had a cat like that. He would eat EVERYTHING! I guess he thought he was part billy goat. There were a couple of times they had to take him to the vets because whatever he ate got wrapped around his intestines. He died not too long ago because his liver gave out on him.

We have no pets! My husband hates cats and I "dislike" dogs so we've agreed to no pets. I always had cats growing up and he always had dogs. A few months ago he almost caved in and let us get a cat because my 6 year old was begging for a kitty. It ended up not happening and I have to say that I'm relieved we are still a petless home.
