I think it best to take both fish and flax oil as they represent different types of food sources (animal and plant based). Although flax oil will be converted into the same omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil (DHA and EPA), it just strikes me as a good idea to mimic as close as possible the kind of diet that is optimal for fighting inflammation. For me, that includes omega-3's from both fish and plants.
Of course, actually eating fatty fish and green leafy vegetables, walnuts, etc. would be good too!
Yes, eating the fish, etc. would be good. Unfortunately, I seem to be sensitive to salmon and also shellfish - darn - I like it too. I was instructed not to eat raw foods or nuts until in remission. I will do as instructed and take 2000 mg. omega 3 for a while - hope it helps my UC as well as my trigylcerides!
