How to get VSL#3 cheaper?

VSL#3 works well for me but since I find it so expensive I dropped it and tried another pro biotic that is not as good. Had my GI doc write a prescription for it but my insurance said they do not cover medical foods. Any ideas out there where you can get it cheaper?
It is about $75.00- $79.00 a box!!!!! I also tried getting it through my pharmacy unsuccessfully.

Yes, it is soooo expensive.... you can save a few bucks by buying a number of boxes at once. Are there folks near enough to you to get a "buyers' group" going?
I used the pharmacy site-finder thing on the Sigma Tau website and found that one pharmacy not too far from me carries it, but I've continued to order it directly anyway.
I asked a doc in my old group to write a prescription for the double strength (VSL#3D, "prescription strength") which my insurance website claimed they'd cover, but then I got a message back from the ins. that they wouldn't cover it after all.
Frustrating.

We had our Dr. rewrite a new prescription for the higher VSL#3 - it is called VSL#3D powder and success - our insurance does pay for that one - strange!?!  Anyhow, our Costco in Texas can get it - only drawback is my daughter hates the taste of the powder no matter what we put it in and so I went to our healthfood store and bought a pack of empty gel caps and have been filling them by hand - well worth it!!!!!  Good luck - give it a whirl - I only knew to do this by reading other blogs - thanks to those the mentioned it you saves us some bucks!!!!!

I bought a yogurt maker and would mix a packet with 2 quarts of milk, then let it sit for 24 hours. Basically made SCD yogurt out of it, which allowed each packet to last 4-6 days.

ouchytummy, how can you find out if your insurance covers vsl 3?

Have your Dr. write it for the VSL#3D and take to your pharmacy and have them call your insurance to see what they say. Costco took ours - Good Luck! I only knew to do this by reading some of the blogs.
