He's Cured

I tried eliminating sugar and carbs for a few months and it didn't help me significantly. Not saying it doens't help anyone. As for the probiotics, I took high doses while doing SCD diet and still no luck. I do think probiotics are helpful but not helpful enough to eliminate my UC. I would love to try taking flagyl or diflucan for a longer period to eradicate any type of fungus or bacteria but goodluck getting a doctor to agree to this. I haven't had a doctor even offer me flagyl and I have specifically asked a few. 

Hi and welcome to Healingwell :) Ok here's the thing that you have to realize is that Uc, as of now, has NO cure. We can do things to alter the course of our Uc but ultimately in the end it is still with us. We can get into remission for years and years, but Uc is still with us. That is the key point that many doctors, nutritionalists, alternative docs etc try to achieve - remission that WILL last years and years.

The main thing is trying to find something that works for you but never go into a treatment thinking that it is the cure all or you can get highly disappointed. But his medication regimine looks ok to me and maybe it may work for (some). I had one dose of Diflucan once for a yeast infection and it was one of the times that I truly felt great. I have no Uc symptoms at all until it wore off.

Diflucan is an anti-fungal drug. It's used to treat thrush and vaginal yeast infections.

Also, please notice that he doesn't say he's "cured" but that he's "healed." So am I. So are many of us who are in remission. The UC is still there, but is not active, and the lining of the colon has healed. The UC can still come back, and likely will at some point.

I have also found that a very low carb diet is quite beneficial. For years I had no symptoms as long as I kept the carbs very low. It's RIDICULOUSLY hard to maintain though. No fruit, processed foods, dairy, grains, beans, sauces, etc. I ate fresh meat, eggs, low carb veggies, and water. Every once in a while I'd have a few nuts. That's it.

If UC has a fungal or bacterial source, this diet should work. It's quite possible that UC has multiple sources (just like stomach ulcers), so what works for some may not for others.
