Pain (both intestinal and joint) IS normal with colitis, so your doc is off on that one. My doc was REALLY suprised I had absolutely no bowel pain, given that I had pancolitis and the number of BMs I was having a day. And I also think he was overreacting on the need for hospitalization and bowel rest at this point. That's usually reserved for people who are in a severe flare.
As for the intestinal virus princesa refers to, no, it's not serious (at least if I get what she's saying). She's referring to a simple virus that causes intestinal issues (vomiting, diarrhea, etc)...kind of like a cold, but affecting your gut instead of your nose and such. Many people refer to this as a tummy bug or the stomach flu.
I highly doubt your doctor is thinking you have bowel cancer.
Really, really, really, I think you need to seek counseling. You always seem so worried and anxious when you post. It's has *me* worried about you!
