Birth Control Pill?

My symptoms seem to get worse with my hormonal cycle, I wonder if the pill would even out the hormones. Anyone know?

I'm on the pill. Still get nasties around period time. It seems likely that I will go off the pill soon and get an IUD. That seems like a good alternative for a lot of women, with and without IBD.

I'm on the pill and don't notice any blips around my period. I went on the pill when I was about 18, because my mom had ovarian cancer at 30 and many studies have shown that women who take the pill have a lower incidence of ovarian cancer than those who do not. I went off the pill about 6 months before my husband and I started TTC (trying to conceive) our first child. My symptoms of UC started about 4 weeks after the birth of our son. I breastfed him until he was about 8-9 weeks old and had to stop because my supply dropped so low. At that point, I went back on the pill, but I hadn't really had a period yet at that point.

So, I can't really say if the pill makes things better or not UC-wise. Before I went on the pill, though, I'd often have diarrhea in the days leading up to my period. I don't think it had anything to do with UC, but I do think it was hormone-related.

A lot of people are against BC, I'm not though! I have having really bad cramps and d around my period and it was getting to the point where it was so ridiculous that I had to do something. My primary doctor put me on ortho lo and it really did help me. I still got some loose d but it was nowhere near what it was and I've been on the pill since (about 5ish years?)

If you notice very slow gradual worsening of your symptoms it might be the birth control... I recently found out that the combined pills rely on your gut flora to be absorbed... I think mine is bothering me. Just warning you. But don't let me scare you!! Most people are fine =) I would give it a shot if it's really bothering you

I think taking the pill may have made my UC worse. I always felt like my body was unbalanced since taking the pill.

My doc said that I could take the bc pill for 3 months straight and not have a period as often. She thinks that would help with UC.

I've been on the pill since I was 16, so it's been 6 years.

I always felt a lot worse around that time....but since having UC it get's a lot worse. I go into a mini flare almost every time and it makes me so angry. =[

I use the Nuvaring for birth control. I had my annual exam a few months ago and told my OB / GYN that I had more UC symptoms when the ring was "out". She told me that I could leave it in for 4 weeks instead of 3, take it out and put a new one right back in so I didn't get a period. She told me that I could go as few as 3 periods a year using that method.

FYI I have followed those instructions and it's been GREAT! :)

And to follow up on what Jen said, you can do something like what she's doing with NuvaRing with the pilll...just skip over the "sugar pills" you take the week you're on your period, and start a new pack of pills instead. It's basically the same thing as taking Seasonale or one of the other "limited number of periods/year" pills. You'll of course have to get your doc to ok it so your RX is written for enough refills each year.

I'm not sure. Though I must say, it helps a lot with OTHER stuff.
