Adverse reaction to Canasa

     Anyone experience burning and discomfort after inserting Canasa?  I have been using the suppositories every morning as the doctor prescribed for the past three months.  Friday I had a lot of pain and burning in the rectum.  Since Canasa never did this to me previously, I just thought it may be hemorrhoids.  Yesterday my rectum felt much better.  Last night, instead of my usual Cort enema, I inserted a Canasa since I retain them moreso than the enemas and the burning and pain was back.

If you have hemmies and/or a fissure then it can account for the sensitivity. I had the same issue when I was using Canasa - but it could also be because you are still inflammed in there.

Did you ever consult a proctologist? I did years ago and my GI doctor got a little ticked off because I went behind his back and the proctologist sent him a letter...lol. Geez, I sure hope it isn't a fissure. Did you ever get pain down your legs from this? Is the Canasa doing more harm than good??

It has hurt me but only in the case that I have a herrhroid or that they are too cold. Do you refridgerate them? Room temp is best but they can't go above a certain temp of they melt. I've had mine melt in the car when I was traveling.

Mine are room temperature. I inserted this at 9am. I moved my bowels twice, normal movement, no blood or mucus. Still have the burning and discomfort though.

When I could tolerate them, the pain was only rectal. It would burn and itch. But now that I think about it, maybe that was the precursor to my real allergic reaction to mesalamines. No, I never saw a Proctologist after I went to a GI. A Proctologist is the one that sent me to the GI in the first place when he suspected that I had something worse then just hemmies.

Colorectal surgery is a field in medicine, dealing with disorders of the rectum or anus. The field is also known as proctology, but the term is outdated in the more traditional areas of medicine.

I am not sure if seeing someone else will help but if you have good insurance, it can't hurt. It's always good to have more opinions. I have never had any pain with canasa except if my skin is torn from a firm movement or a hemmie, haha, sorry TMI.
