Asacol/Lialda too expensive but doc wants me on it.

Before I was diagnosed with uc I got on a nice affordable insurance plan for my daughter & I. It only covers $2500 a year with a $500 deductible for meds. I wish I would have known I was going to have uc so I would have gotten an unlimited amount plan for meds. I have been off asacol for about 3 months now because i'm no longer covered and can't afford to pay about $600 a month for them. I feel like asacol hardly worked when I was on it though anyway but my doc really wants me on it. She also wants me to up my amount of 6mp i'm taking but I told her I have been doing really good for the past 6 months at 50mg. I'm now down to 5mg of pred and almost off of that, I didn't think I was going to make it this low because prednisone was the only thing that really helped me out of everything. Anyway before i ramble anymore, is there any way possible to get asacol or anything like it for a cheaper price? I have some discount cards but it's only like $25 off each prescription wich is next to nothing. I just hope I can stay in remission without any meds like I did for years before diagnosed, I believe i've had it for years but it just never got as bad as it did when diagnosed.

I get my drugs through p&g's patient assistance program. I am not sure if you would be elligable because you're insured and it is dependent on income but it's worth a try. the only problem with it is that you have to plan early. It takes a while to get the renewal prescription to them, for them to get approval and to receive the medication.

Hopefully you can get Asacol from the patient assistance program, and also ask your doctor for Asacol from his stock of samples to keep you going till then.

I am using a generic that's made in India called Mesacol. I manage to get several months worth brought across for me, but someone mentioned that you can also get Mesacol from online Canadian pharmacies. I have never used the Canadian pharmacies but several people on the forum have, and I know that they often turn out to be a lot cheaper than getting prescriptions filled at US pharmacies.
