Metamucil and interactions with other drugs

I recently started taking metamucil, one tablespoon, three times a day. I am still taking prednisone (50mg) and asacol. How does the metamucil affect the other drugs? Currently I take the metamucil a couple of minutes before I take the prednisone.

Ideally you should avoid taking any medicines or supplements within 2 hours of taking a fiber supplement, as it can affect how well the drugs get digested/absorbed.

Ooooh, goodness, really? All my talk about taking Metamucil for 23 years and I always take it just before lunch, and some Asacol with lunch.....maybe I'll try to rethink my schedule ....

I take metamucil just when I am about to eat, as that seems to work best for me...and then I take Asacol and probiotics in between meals.

Actually, I've done a little research - if you google it, there are some articles on metamucil and drug interactions. From what I understood, insulin might need to be adjusted if you take metamucil (no matter what time of day you take it) and there were a few other specific kinds of medications that interacted with it, but basically, if a medication says it can be taken with food, you can take it with metamucil.

As mentioned on the Metamucil website FAQ's:

"Are there any drug interactions or restrictions with Metamucil?

Laxatives, including bulk fibers, may affect how well other medications work. If you are taking a prescription medication by mouth, take Metamucil at least two hours before or two hours after the prescribed medicine."
